I disagree, both waiting for the hair to grow un-dreaded or waiting for short dreads to grow takes patience.
You just choice what to be patience on!
    I picked the latter.

    I actually don't know..
What is the point of the bands at any rate?

The way I see it, if you have to do it in 2 steps (growing your hair out and then dreading), you're half as likely to have the patience to do that because it takes twice as long to see results.

Mike, there's no point at all in the bands on the end of your dreads. Bands are only useful, and then only a little bit, on the roots.

Dreads are a commitment boys, one longer and more challenging than either of you have yet to experience in your short little lives. I'm only trying to give you advice, because I've been there. Do what you will, but your 'patience' has not even begun to be tested.

    Okay okay!
    Goodbye bands!

    Thanks for that advice!
