I’m very familiar with US History from the founding of Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts, The French and Indian Wars, The American Revolution, The War of 1812, Mexican American War, The Civil War, The Indian Wars, World War I, WW II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War, etc….and everything in between ...............

Could you please enlighten us to a time in American history when America was great?

Completely irrelevant, misleading, and off topic. That was a Republican Party thing.

In some people's eyes (not mine) the very things you just mentioned make America great. After all, we won most of those wars!

I happened to hear part of trump's speech last night. He spent most of it telling us how great he is, and defending himself against credible attacks.
He is nothing but a bloviating sonofabitch.

How about when America abolished the institution of slavery, before Brazil (1888, arguably 1994), before Saudi Arabia (1962), before Mauritania (1981), slavery which was universal, happened to every ethnic group, not just blacks, based on The Declaration of Independence, the greatest document of freedom ever written?

How about when America sent a man to the moon?

How about when America, including an infantry called the Liberators, comprised entirely of black Americans, freed Jews from concentration camps?

How about when America defeated communism (which the left is trying to revive because they're lazy, stupid, and never learn) without dropping a single bomb or launching on missile?

If you hate it here so much, why do you insist on living here?? That's the great mystery of treason.

My parents are Liberian and some people see me as African. But I am proud to be American. Black as the ace of spades, but 100% American.

You can doubt American exceptionalism and still have every right to live here .....

Can we compare her to Stalin instead? He's further left than Hitler and killed more people.

You can compare her to whomever you wish, but if you want to be taken seriously you would have to show how the comparison is valid.

For instance you mention that Stalin killed more people than Hitler. Both men are directly responsible for millions of deaths.
Now how are you linking Hillary Clinton to either of these men based on the number of people killed?

Sounds pretty absurd to me also.

  11. This is so ridiculous. That's why I made the joke. And no, it's not just a Republican thing. In fact I see more people comparing Trump to Hitler, and it's just such a comical, black and white way of looking at things.

Great things can be both good and evil. So I think America is great on both accounts. But it isn't like, "Gee, this is great." It's actually kind of a bummer that the rest of the world looks upon us with such scorn and derision. I really hope I live to see the day when America is truly a friend of the global community. When we're all working towards the same goal, which is the betterment of humanity, rather than a corporate dictatorship.

The same way it sounds absurd to me to compare Trump to Hitler like so many do. Granted, I too think that it would be a bit of a stretch to compare Hillary to Stalin. But nevertheless I see her as a power hungry sociopath who'll change her word on anything to seek public approval.

Yes, but that doesn't change the fact that Hillary was a head-nodder for most of the GOP's fuck-ups like the Iraq invasion

I remember this Donald Trump interview back in 2006 when he was very critical of the Bush admin.

There are documented cases of slavery which still existed in the deep south well into the 1920s and basic civil rights were not achieved until the late 1960s.

Yes America sent a man to the moon and we can thank Wernher Von Braun a former Nazi who developed the V-2 rocket with the intent to send our WW II British Allies back to the stone age.

America was well aware of the activities of the Nazis as early as 1939 when they refused to allow the ill-fated ship The St. louis to enter the port of Havana filled with mostly Jewish passengers.
Half of passengers who returned to Europe received Special Treatment

Last I checked communism was alive and well.

And finally I was born and raised in America and served 6 years honorably in the Military. America was never great, but has the capacity to be great.

At the height of slavery, only 6% of Americans owned slaves. Compare that to 17% of Caribbeans and 38% of Brazilians. Where are the calls for reparations in Brazil (and please don't give me that "who's black in Brazil?" stuff, that's a myth). Black Brazilians are proud to be Brazilian. Black Puerto Ricans are proud to be Puerto Rican. Yet black Americans insist on dwelling on the past and being oppositionally defiant.

One of my students is from Saudi Arabia. I asked "did you like it there?" He said "of course, it's my country." Even people from hellholes are proud of their countries. Only Americans are self-hating.

Well, you cannot talk about these things because of political correctness and mass indoctrination by the media and public school system. It's forbidden, because, after all, that's free speech in modern-day America. It has been designed that way intentionally. This is why Americans are some of the softest, most malleable people in the world.

I mean, yeah, how many people come here and openly spew hate for the country while driving around with their native country's flag on their car? Try that in another country if you're an American and see how well that goes over, especially in a place like Mexico or Jamaica. I couldn't give a shit about patriotism, as countries are more or less simply pieces of real estate on a map. The only purpose of nationalism is to divide and conquer, but it still stands that Americans who have lived here and paid into the system all their lives are now being fleeced to fund an increasing welfare state that continues to grow as more people are brought into the country. But dare speak against it and you're an intolerant bigot and racist hatemonger.

The true purpose of political correctness is to stop people from talking about the things that are being used to subvert the country from within. It makes it a lot easier for the powers that be to carry out their objectives if people are afraid to talk about it.

The political correctness you are talking about in schools is a result of lawsuits brought on by parents and the gutless administrators who will not back up the teachers in the classrooms.

Teachers have become the powerless tools of ignorant school boards (you don't need a high school diploma to be on a school board) and the growing population of Americans who jump at the chance to promote their own personal "freedoms" and undermine the society they live in for personal gain.

    Anti-intellectualism at its finest.

Most Americans I know are a little too nationalistic and patriotic if you ask me. Other countries don't seem to possess the same level of patriotic fervor.

(Granted, some of that has died out 15 years after 9/11 and especially now that Donald Trunk has the taken that nationalistic crowd and told them America isn't great anymore. )

We are a nation founded on the right to free speech - if we can't critisize our country we basically are dead as a nation.

Sticking youor head in the sand and ignoring America's faults doesn't make you a good patriot.
