I can't believe we've sunk to the level where people are debating whether it's okay for a major, serious Presidential candidate to claim that some sex crimes are not a big deal.

The debate did not change the dynamics of the election. Just more jabbing at each other's character, and more media bias exposed.

And lies lies lies... attracting all the house flies

Thanks for posting that wisdom for all of us...the rest of us might want to re-read Hippies From A to Z and cherish the hippie ideals that can make this nation great again.

PS - I was an editor of that book and created the 'hippy timeline' Cheers!

So how did we all think the second debate went?

To me, Trump just came off looking like a real prick, the body language, the sour face the whole time.....although the leak of that audio tape recently sent me in with a certain bias

Many youtubers seem to be saying Hillary was rattled at times, to me it didnt seem she was rattled, seemed she was disgusted - which could look the same

This guy is just coming off as a self important a-hole now

There were several problems with Donald Trump's performance in this debate.

The first was his defense of the leaked sex tape. Well, not the first his intro statement was all over the map. He never addressed the point about whether his behavior was appropriate for a presidential candidate. When many people, myself included, find it difficult to talk to their children or grandchild about Trump's campaign tactics, something is wrong. He never addressed this.

But his defense about his remarks was totally inappropriate also. While he did apologize, sort of, he then proceeded to blame ISIS, and contradicted himself when he said " Nobody has more respect for women than I do." In addition he attacked Hillary Clinton's husband with decades old charges that have been litigated and dispelled years ago. Remember Ken Starr? This is the policy Trump said he would use against terrorist, go after their families. Before the debate he paraded out a group of women...... a la P.T. Barnum, who have had their chance to prove their allegations many years ago, and failed.
The logic of the whole charade was a complete loss as he then claimed his inappropriate behavior was done years ago so it doesn't matter but failed to explain how Bill's problems, which also occurred years ago, are still relevant.

He then started to interrupt the moderators, a classic Trump technique for gaining attention. At the same time he presented a skewed synopsis of Hillary's thirty years of public service. According to him she did nothing!

He never apologized for any of his other attacks on individuals or groups. Instead he claimed that it was all Hillary's fault that he claimed Obama wasn't born in the U.S., a fact that has been repeatedly demonstrated to be wrong...she owes the apologies. Hillary's fault this time, not Trump's.

He then misrepresented the e mail scandal, but his base doesn't care as they never do any fact checking.
Now here is where it got really interesting. If elected he stated, "So we’re going to get a special prosecutor,". Apparently he believes he can appoint a special prosecutor, which is done by the Congress or Attorney General, not the President.
When Hillary commented on how fact checking would prove Trump wrong and that it would be good if someone with his temperament was not
President he replied, "Because you'd be in jail."

No let's stop and thing about that for a moment.
Here is a man who has no problem attacking innocent people, such as terrorists' families. When caught in his own improprieties shrugs them off as youthful (59 year old youthful) locker room talk and then goes after his political opponent's husband. And then has the audacity to declare that as President he will put is political opponent in jail!!!!

It is clear that he has judged Hillary Clinton on a number of issues and declared her guilty. There is no debate on that subject, he has declared her guilty, no trial, no jury, no presumption of innocence. And he has declared he will put her in jail once elected.

If that is not the trait of a dictator I don't know what is. To openly declare that if elected he will put his rival in jail is to follow in the steps of third rate dictators. This alone is enough to disqualify him as a Presidential candidate.

Almost Trump's entire performance was rude, baseless, unfactual, and just plain ugly....and I'll stop there.

Trump came across as a novice. You can tell he has had little practice structuring a spoken argument. He rambled and spoke in circles, with little cohesion. He relied heavily on nasty one-liners, aimed largely at his opponent's character. A lot of harping on the same issues, speaking over people, etc. Not impressed. Schoolyard bully all grown up.

I did think that the moderators were biased in favor of Hillary, though -- mainly Anderson Cooper. He seemed to challenge Trump a lot more and the questions aimed at Trump appeared more confrontational.

What has made you so interested in the United States presidential elections? You have some in-depth knowledge and good insights for someone who isn't an American. This isn't a bad thing, but just curious since many people can't be bothered with following foreign elections. Do you actually like Hillary?

Many dutch people i know are just as interested in it as VG. Not because they like one of the candidates though. USA is still an important player on the world stage. Also what VG says about how ludicrous it is for a civilized country to have such a turd having such a big chance. And yeah: also because the shit show that is the american presidential elections has been both entertaining and intriguing for years... (we're taking notes here of how NOT do do things ;))

    Shit show?

I would describe it as comedy.

The jury is still out on the rape of that 13 year old girl, Donald, but i do not dislike you really. You are funny...a comedic........but my President? I think you are too immature to be President. I see you as a little boy who never grew up...nor did you have to, I suppose....Your emotions are very childish, but I do not dislike you....I have to say what is true...and i don't hate Donald Trump really....

I do dislike your running mate, though, tremendously..

Do I like hillary?....not really...but she won't be trying to overturn Roe v Wade....won't appoint someone to the justice system I will fear....etc., etc., etc....
She has made some stupid mistakes, but do I think she does not care about people.....? I think she does, but she is a lawayer, too....so she plays it very cool, too....

Now, bernie...love that man....The world has been cheated out of a great leader....and that is very sad.

Yes with all the mudslinging, several lies and conscious subtile diversions from the truth, the ridicilous one liners of one candidate and the annoying attempts to be likeable or humorous from the other are some examples of why it is just as much a shit show as solid entertainment.
Besides, we are seeing how a majority of americans are using their democracy: in the end not really funny in any way

Americans are not sick of politics as usual, the republican party is imploding due to demographic issues. Obama was the first president to be elected by the urban population when, for the first time in history, they actually outnumbered the rural. The republican party adopted the "Southern Strategy" over half a century ago and now they are about to discover the real meaning of the South Shall Rise Again! Its the same old story all over the planet with rural populations adopting fundamentalism as the only way they can fight off the encroachment of civilization. The American family farm is all but history today and as their children move to cities to find work they are becoming more liberal.

What comes next is the civil war all over again with Timothy McVey being just a little ahead of his time. That's why even the democrats have chosen to give the military the legal right to round up citizens like cattle if necessary and Homeland Security is reading everyone's emails. So long as wealth inequality continues at extreme rates we'll just have more of the same with blacks rioting and sniping cops and republicans preparing for WWIII.

The Republican Party is dividing in half. It's been going on for four years, in slow motion. The two groups can barely tolerate each other. Trump's supporters, former Tea Party organizers, Rush Limbaugh followers, and conspiracy theorists have almost nothing in common with the group led by Paul Ryan, which is most of the GOP leaders in Washington, business leaders on Wall Street, and top 1% wealthy Americans. Within the next four years, I expect them to fully separate into two parties with no official connection to each other. Trump's party will get the majority of the idiots, and nobody with common sense like Colon Powell or Wesley Clark or Steve Schmidt.

It was overshadowed by what happened the day before. So many voters have written Trump off that it may not matter what he does anymore.

The jail comment is the one most likely to be remembered for a long time. Trump would apparently like to make America into the kind of country where the winners of elections routinely put their opponents in prison. Such countries are easy to find if you look up international travel warnings.

Sometimes you just have to know when you are fighting a losing battle, but the republican party and fundamentalists in general never were good at bowing out gracefully. It just doesn't serve their agenda and I have sympathy for their plight even if I can't support them. They are paying a terrible price every bit as horrible as what they have done to others.

maybe I am too liberal with my feeling before for Trump...as someone just sent me this...in my emails...and I did not even see this or think of this...and
    EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You never know who anyone really is until you really know who anyone really is....

It is weird...what someone said to me....this, and I have no idea what is going on here...and am disgusted to have to think of things like this now...as that is not who I am....but someone said....they wondered if T tried something with his daughter, too...and EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

I DON't EVEN WANT TO SPECULATE THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We tend to see more of the US pres on our TV more than our own PM, especially with Obama, he is a cool cat and and the media loves him.

Yes I like Hillary, but it's more about the getting older / grumpy old man thing likeling to talk about politics. I've also been following Duterte lately.

If Trump does get in, two things I want to bet money on in the next couple of years are 1) how long it takes Duterte to get assasinated 2) How long it takes Trump to get impeached

You've all said it so well, it's hard to find something to improve on. Just a few more points about Trump's performance that particularly bothered me. I think the debate showed his lack of sound judgment that should be disqualifying for the presidency Everything he did and said was an appeal to his base, and I think he was successful in stirring them up and stopping the bleeding, at least temporarily. But he was already losing ground with women and college educated men and the traditional conservative Republican elite (inroads among African-Americans, Hispanics, and Muslims already being a lost cause) and I think he only made things worse for himself with those segments of the electorate. The idea of responding to the videotape of his own misconduct by parading Bill's accusers before the audience may play well with the Jerry Springer or Rush Limbaugh crowd that seems to be his base, but is a non-sequitor and un-presidential. doesn't The menacing stalking of Hillary on stage was bad optics for a man under attack as MCP of the year. The brief "apology" seemed more defiant than heartfelt, reminding me of the kind we used to give in grade school when the teacher called us up to the front of the classroom to "apologize". The idea that it was no big deal, just "locker room talk" and that Bill did worse in the 90s is a child's defense. But not everybody sees it that way. “You know, it takes a big man to know when he’s wrong and to admit it, and have the humility to apologize and be transparent and be vulnerable,” said Mike Pence. “And Donald Trump last night showed that he’s a big man.” Once again, as in the Vice-Presidential debate, Pence seems to be describing the Trump of his dreams instead of the Donald of reality. That should be disqualifying for Pence as well. Either he is a terrible judge of character or is a world class liar.

Not to be overlooked were Trump's comments on Syria and Russia, once again parroting the Kremlin line, and once again dismissing FBI evidence of Russian involvement in the Wikileaks dump on Hillary..And somebody should correct Trump's Islamophobic "hyperbole". Contrary to his claim that a neighbor of the terrorist bomber in San Bernadino saw bombs scattered all over the terrorist's house and didn't report it, it seems non-Muslim neighbors saw some packages being delivered and didn't report it. Trump says “We have to be sure that Muslims come in and report when they see something going on. When they see hatred going on, they have to report it.” It seems some Muslims have been having fun with this. https://www.yahoo.com/news/muslimsreportstuff-trump-gets-trolled-on-twitter-over-islamophobia-debate-question-142957823.html

The Washington Post is reporting that Trump had a more sinister plan to humiliate Bill Clinton by having the four woman walk onto the stage at the same time as Bill did and then proceed to sit in the elevated Trump family section.

This was devised by Steve Bannon Trump's campaign manager and Jared Kusher, his son in law and approved by Trump. This plan was held in secret until it was discovered at the last moment by the debate officials and Trump was told that the women would be removed by security officers.

Here is a long list of the lies and mis-statements presented by Trump in the debate, including the full account of what really happened with these four woman. Get a cup of coffee, it'll take awhile to get through it all.

  21. I think the reason Trump is getting off lightly for his comments as opposed to Bill Clinton's rape accusations is that there's a lot of doubt as to whether a person is ever off the hook for raping someone. Granted Donald Trump has his rape allegations as well. Nice people these are.

I don't see Trump as ushering in a new age of tyranny. It'd never work in this god-forsaken country. When Trump says Hillary would be in jail it's because a lot of people think she belongs there. It's not just because she's a political opponent. We're in no danger of Trump taking over as tyrant this November. He would be quickly disposed of, and anyone who was trying to execute his orders would be put in prison or killed. We're in far greater danger of the establishment slowly and secretly consolidating its power while the American people sleep, as it has been doing for decades now. As it will continue to do under Clinton and likely Trump as well. The president is a placeholder for the American people. Neither Hillary or Trump are appropriate symbolically. The real power lies with the banks and the wealthy elite who these two assholes really represent.
