Just in case you ever cut your pet's nail too close and cause it to bleed, I wanted to share a solution. Put the toenail in some flour or cornstarch. Hold it there a minute or so and it should clot the bleeding.
F#@%, that sounds painful! EDIT: My parents' dog, Sophie gets her nails ground down at someplace. I think PetSmart does it.
This is the only time it's happened to me. I have more nails to go and now I'll be a nervous wreck to do it.
I use a dremmel drill to file away my boys nails. We cut his nail too short the first time, not bad, but he wasn't doing that again so now I use a spinning sanding accessorise and bzzzzzzzzzz them all down. It doesn't hurt him, the vibrations tickle him but we just treat him and he'll go through with it, eventually.
