Does the SL use Mac or PC?

imo all you have to do is look at which makes the best computer possible

and it is PC by a mile, mac doesnt even make a "high end" rig really, they just have incremently better computers that stop at an "average-high" PC, no where close to the best.

 

The only people for whom the Mac isn't the best choice are hardcore gamers. For everyone else, what matters is the ease of getting things done and for that the Mac is clearly way ahead of Windows machines.

 

no Macs are for people who want to use their computer for the most basic of things and nothing else, it's not just gamers, anyone who wants to tinker with their computer in any slightest way a PC wins by a mile

 

Define what you mean by tinker? Because if you mean hardware then no, you can change a macs hardware if you know what you are doing. Also OS X is built on top of UNIX so you have fuckin commands galore to play with not to mention UNIX's known stability.

If someone wants to tinker with their computer though they might as well just install linux, and you can do that on almost anything lol. Shit they have nix for your pod, phone, they even have a media center linux that allows you to control the security system on your house remotely through your phone. You can be yelling in the face of an intruder from half way across the world.

 

It seems to me that the urge to tinker comes from a feeling of dissatisfaction with its current state. It's mostly hardcore gamers that get this urge.

 

no... it's just something geeks need to do.. tinker.. we tinker.. sure it'll be fine for awhile. but then tinker tinker tinker.. tinker til you blow it up if be the case..

another main reason for tinker is to be able to run as much as you can with as much unused virtual memory as possible..

every system has mods.. its because there is someone out there with whatever OS/phone/console that sees something that can be better.. iphone has lists and lists of hacks/mods.. so does WinMo.. Palm.. Xbox.. PS.. you name it.. there is a mod/hack to make it better


PS: also the only thing that Apple/Mac compares there computers to is Vista.. anyone whos been PC their whole life knows how much Vista sucks.. we've known this since pre-betas/betas.. windows was in such a hurry to release Vista. they released unfinished apps in the prebeta/beta releases so bugs were never really fixed.. things were different with XP and the forth coming Win7.. prebeta Win7 was compatible with just about any program you ran on it.. FireFox worked.. uTorrent worked.. winamp.. DX10.. etc.. it all worked with no problems.. basically what Mac is doing is picking on the "retard of the windows OS".. match up MacOS to WinXP SP3 or Win2k SP4 and you got a whole different story.. or wait til later this year and watch Mac drop out of the PC race thanks to Win7.

Personally i think Apple should just switch to "entertainment".. iPods.. iPhones.. fuck.. even make a game console.. but leave the PC world to the people who know what a computer is

as has been posted before in this thread, macs are for "hipsters" who want a computer more for image and looking up vegetarian recipes then actually using a "computer"

Support is not there compared to PC, thats enough for me to not back mac

im pretty much fully against mac although i own an iphone

bottom line is, no mac is as good as my PC, -none- so until they step their game up and start making computers to compete with the top PC's i wont even take notice.

 

Lol support, oh you mean in applications, I was about to say if your were referring to customer service then you are DEAD wrong. Apple has some of the best service out there and it is nice to know that they are easily fooled. If you have applecare you basically have the ability to get a new mac laptop EVERY SINGLE fucking year if you know how to bs a customer service rep.

And yeah Eric you are right. I certainly have no clue how to use a computer. Might as well beat myself over the head with an Apple II until I smart up and buy one of those pc's

You are however right on yet another point, vista is a piece of shit. However it is the piece of shit that Microsoft fully endorses, offers support for, and puts on every single box that they sell at stores. XP is dead, doesn't come preinstalled, and no more updates. It is still a solid operating system but if apple compared Leopard to XP they would be called fools and told to get their heads out of their asses and realize that XP isn't their competition. Also no way in hell XP surpasses the features of Leopard, not even fuckin feasible bro.

Also lets not forget about the upcoming release of 10.6 Snow Leopard. 7 might top Leopard (still HIGHLY doubtful lol) but Snow Leopard will pounce on 7 like the puny piece of shit windows will have designed it to be

Win7.. piece of shit? you are sadly mistaken.. the only thing holding Win7 back is the fact that Vista was released the way it was.. but fret not.. for Win7 is gonna kick some serious ass.. we'll see it all come october.. let Leopard get a jump with their september release.. Win7 will still outsell Leopard by Christmas

 

Well yeah but that isn't even a solid argument as Windows has outsold Mac for a long long time and will continue to do so for a good number of years. Why? Because of the sheer amount of windows pcs made by numerous manufacturers. Mac makes what, 5 computers that you can customize. HP makes like 9 laptops alone, not to mention that they come out with new ones almost twice a year. The sheer number of pc manufacturers prohibits any mac os from outselling windows unless apple opens up the doors to allowing Mac OS X to be installed on any run of the mill pc without having to hack it.

Windows 7 isn't promising anything mind blowing just a more stable and faster system. Some of the things Microsoft considers as key changes are laughable at best.

I will however say that 7 looks wise is a lot easier on the eyes than Vista. However Mac still also wins in the looks department and THAT won't change lol.

 

the plan for Win7 is the Stability of Xp.. with the look of Vista.. i never did mind how vista looked(seeing as i run a vista clone).. i hated how it ran..

 

oh and you still can find brand new computers with XP.. you just gotta look a little harder.. or ask to have it down graded when you purchase

 

Which is my point, you have to have it "down" graded, computers don't come with XP preinstalled anymore. It is funny they call installing better software and getting rid of the shittier newer software a "down-grade"

 

I mainly use my laptop. But i love the mac my parents bought.

 

i have 7 installed on my laptop right now, it's very nice and has very good user functionality

in terms of "looks" any OS can look like any other OS with widgets, docks, etc. so thats really a moot point.

 

I have no problem with PC's, some of them will outperform macs by far. The problem I have with them is the OS. Like Connor was saying at the moment you have to buy either a dead, downgraded OS or a shitty new one. If Windows 7 turns out to be a failure like Vista was, I don't see much of a future for Microsoft, people will be sick of XP and will subsequently turn towards a more advanced OS such as mac OSX. It makes perfect sense, I mean XP is almost 10 years old, it's completely ridiculous to use an OS that out dated. However, it doesn't sound like Windows 7 is going to suck, according to what I've read.

I'm really excited for Snow Leopard though, Apple is really going to raise the bar by making it 64 bit.
