In my opinion, a right to free speech does not include the right to hate speech. There are responsibilities attached to all freedoms, and in order to have legitimate authority of a right to free speech, one needs to use it with responsibility. Otherwise there are consequences.

I mean, a right to free speech does not give license for anyone to say anything that puts down other people. When it comes to Jehovah's or any other religious sect, the same should apply to them : they should not hate on other people.

It's kind of an abuse of power.

Right to free speech so you can be allowed to say whatever you want is an abuse of power.

I kind of agree, I mean I don't like hearing hate in any form. But, I would hate to live in a world where you couldn't say you disagreed with anything, or that you didn't like something. Obviously that would be he extreme, but where would the boundary be?

The Thought Police have been contacted and you are now being watched for speech that directs hatred against the Klan. If you continue you will be arrested and sent to thought reassignment classes. You cannot say just anything you please !! This is America, you can only say things that are nice about others. Remember, speech is only free if it agrees with the government's opinion. In the future, please refer to the Government's handbook on restricted speech for the official guidelines.

OK, let's all make a list of offensive speech that should be banned. I'll start.

Since all that religious intolerance hurts many people we first need to ban all religious speech outside of the church. No public talk about god or anyone going to hell, it's so distressing for so many people.

Another thing that really causes problems for our nation is political discourse, so from now forward there will be no criticizing of any public official.

See how easy this is. Come on, let's make a list and send it to D.C. and ask them to pass a law. Then, we can decide which books should be burned.

Basically this, who gets to decide what hate speech is. If the KKK can't say hateful things then what about comedians who get laughs off of mocking other people. If the KKK doesn't have the right, what about the flip side, black nationalists don't have a right to say then Africans should move back to Africa or have their own homeland in the US. Or militant lesbian groups who straight up hate men.

Don't forget corrupting speech either, if people can't hate talk, why should those gay/lesbian alliance groups ect be allowed to go into our schools and feed filth into the heads of our children. All those groups that are part of the homosexual agenda trying to corrupt our kids into choosing a gay lifestyle and the never ending bashing of the traditional marriage.

Also I'm pretty sick off all the religion bashing I see these days, someone get those atheists to shut the fuck up already with their hate against god.

God started it, so, duct tape for both groups. Silence any speech that offends anyone. Ban any book that offends anyone. Ban all offensive words and phrases. Then, we can all be unoffended and perfectly happy.

The whole point of freedom of speech is that you may say what you wish. You are responsible for what you say. There are laws that cover this if you are libelous or slanderous. They do not cover idiocy.

You may hold any view, express any opinion but you may not encourage, advocate or incite harm or violence against another.

    I voted Yes.

If I take away their right to voice their opinion, who will next take away my right to disagree with their opinion. Slippery slope is censorship.

Well, it's pretty obvious. Unwarranted hate against a specific, targeted group of people is easy to find the line drawn between a strong opinion of discontent and disagreement.

Lots of places where hate speech is managed and limited.

The courts decide. Duh. Always have, and always will. Domestic laws govern the decisions of the people involved in a trial.
