Does Revenge Make You Feel Better?

Discussion in 'Mind Games' started by tumbling.dice, Mar 25, 2020.

  1. I don't meditate upon those who have wronged me. Even if I could get revenge, I probably wouldn't. Avenging something is a different story.

  2. Also, what is it to venge?

I figured that after publicly executing (slitting throat) William Heselrig, the sheriff of Lanark in the same fashion as his wife Murron, Wallaces' revenge was quenched.

After executing the sheriff there was no turning back and Wallaces' only choice was to move forward with Freedom. I doubt that waging war against Longshanks was to get further revenge for his wife.

    No. I used to.
    But I think it's a false satisfaction.

On the bus on the way out to London last December, I was talking for a few hours on the phone. I was making a specific point to keep my voice quiet and not do that thing where people talk loud on the phone. I was speaking the same volume as if I had had someone with me in person. Guy in front gets all shitty with me about it, says I'm keeping him awake.. This is middle of the day anyway. I sat for a while thinking of loads of retorts I could make.. But when we stopped at services I leaned forwards and said "I AM sorry, by the way, if I was disturbing you." and he backed down and was kind of all "oh well i suppose I could have moved seats..."

Though I felt like it would make me feel better to say something sarcastic.. In actual fact that unpleasant feeling of conflict would have been there. Saying sorry for how he felt, even though I didn't feel I was in the wrong and he was irrational, made everything instantly feel better. At peace.

I think revenge is bad for the soul.

Revengeful feelings while not getting a satisfying revenge is damaging and bad for you. You can clearly feel it.
Getting revenge in a satisfying way is, unfortunately perhaps, awesome :-D

It's a way better feeling when karma comes along and gets them.

Generally makes me feel better than waiting around to see Karma show up though she's a blast to see in action too.

It can make you feel better, though it's just usually not a good idea though.

I think we all hate being tailed-gated. I know I do and I also slow slow down and keep checking the idiot in my rear view mirror to see how they reacting. Sometimes I let them pass and they give me the finger, then I like follow them even going out my way so as to get them worried like I may stop when they do and start a fight!

Agreed. I'm just talking about the movie and he saw visions of his wife throughout the movie and even his big red head friend says to Braveheart "you're not doing it for us, youre doing it for Murron!"

So we can safely conclude that in the movie, Braveheart waged war on the English to revenge his wife's death, which is why he went straight up to that guy and slit his throat a bit later on cause he killed his wife.

Stress kills! Vindictive people usually don't live beyond 50.

according to google, it's a synonym for avenge. so basically, the "a" in avenge is completely pointless.

Judging by those two gorgeous pics you posted up, you would be of the wrong generation to have had grandfathers that fought in WW2. I mean I am easily old enough to be your father. My dad if he was alive today would be 91. He was too young to serve in the armed forces. Even if you knew as at least a teenager, did you find your grandfathers to be vindictive people?
Are you glad that you live in a liberal democracy? Please correct me if I am wrong, but under Nazi Germany it was not just Jews the got thrown in concentration camps, but gay men, disabled people , communists and lesbians.
The next time you are in Australia, we could have a game of chess and I will let you win. I also used to think life was a contest until 1998 when I dropped out of the rat race.

Just try to recover from what it is that deserves revenge. Forget about it and move on. Not biting back and eventually putting yourself in a good place in life is revenge in itself.

I'm 32. My dad is 71. My mom is 59. My grandfathers if living today would be 99 and 116. Like I said, stress and anxiety seemed to keep them alive longer.

No I don't think they were vindictive people. The older one was hard, stern hard fighting straight talking type, the other one basically the opposite, used a war to get out and do something..

A liberal democracy, no, I don't see that as German at all. Maybe right idea, not the execution down to the meaning though. I don't believe our free rights have ever been recognised, not in this day and age, maybe towards certain aspects of life but definitely not others.

Yeah pretty much if you couldn't procreate for the Volk you weren't considered fit enough to be a citizen in das Fatherland.

You wouldn't have to throw your chess game with me, I'm quite confident in my strategic abilities. Just don't make it a timed game because I'm rusty plus, I don't believe having a clock manipulate your thinking and game is a true Form of chess.
