  2. I just think we need to focus on real programs that deal with the disparities between whites and blacks caused by institutionalized racism. That's a lot more important than 40 acres. That's what Bernie said when they asked him about reparations, too. A plot of land or a stack of money isn't going to change shit.

I like that this new Little Mermaid is going to be black. I just hope white people don't get violent over it. Gee.

  3. Though it's changing a lot, and I can't speak to German culture, I guess we can't really understand what it's like to be black and have few or no black icons to look up to. Let's face it, white people basically own this country, or did for a long time. At long last we're starting to see some superheroes and Disney princesses be black.

I can just imagine the poor little black girl playing with her Snow White doll and trying to comb her curly hair straight. *tear*

There is one black Disney princess and the movie is recent. White people have had Snow White and Cinderella since the 1930's. Disney wants everyone's money. It makes sense they will market a black princess. It makes sense why they dress Jasmine in a more tradinonal Islamic way. When I was a kid she was wearing what a young boy likes. That was before 9/11 but even when Aladdin was new they changed the opening song. There was a line about cutting off ears if they don't like your face. Muslims said they are peaceful and did not like it. In 2019 that song is a Fox talking point of free speech and "facts".

Children's entertainment is PC by nature.

Well someone started World War I and World War II, someone exterminated 6 million Jews, and set off a bomb in 1945 near Alamogordo, New Mexico,
which plunged the world for over 50 years into a cold war….but that’s water over the dam [IMG]

There are black sports people in Germany that the culture looks up to, they don't seem to be present in most political aspects of the country. I can't speak for everybody in the country but just like anywhere else in the world, people have different stances, views and ideals so that's not any different here, as it's not different anywhere so there are people looking up to foreign idols and there'll be people who don't either.

People are no different anywhere. I've travelled a lot and been to many countries I always apart from the obvious landscapes, accents, architecture, living conditions and language... The people at least aren't any different when you get to know them.

I don't care if they change mermaids to black, but there shouldn't have to be a justification for it or else it sounds iffy. Like have snow white black cause that's how she was casted, not because all of a sudden there's too many white Disney characters and comic book character, ya know?

  7. lt's not just Disney. It was a while before there was even a black Barbie, to my understanding. I bet there was even a time when there were virtually no black dolls or toys or heroes. The only one that springs to mind is Jackie Robinson, and that's not really the same thing.

Plus, white people just have never been subjected to the same kind of race-based hate we've dished out. Yeah, there are some black racists, but it was never institutionalized. That hatred has a power; it's not just harmless words. It breaks people's confidence when they're hated for any reason, much less one so superficial. And it's not like the n-word is even that uncommon today. Though the situation has gotten much, much better. At least I think it has. I bet a lot of black people would be like, "If you think that, you don't know what the fuck you're talking about," though.

  8. A kid isn't going to know the difference, though. They're just going to know that all of their friends, even the white ones, saw a black little mermaid. And you're most like the little mermaid 'cause you're black. I think it's adorable and sweet.

Aren't the raggedy Anne dolls really old? There's black raggedy Anne's I've seen, not sure of the time frame. Yeah I get what you're saying and all but like barbie was white but how is that a crime? It's just what it was... I'm sure a lot black kids didn't have a problem playing with supposed white dolls. And for Disney like well it's just white characters... And not always, I never saw any white kid bitching and moaning that Mogley wasn't white in the Jungle Book. Or in the remakes. He's in the jungle, of course he's not white. Beauty and the Beast was in Europe, of course she's gonna be white, and the notre dame one too. And Aladdin was in India, so they were Indian. Lol. It's just so silly.

It's like you know I've even heard that films like Braveheart and even Schlinders List is "secretly racist" for not casting blacks but it's like, one film is set in the Scottish highlands and the other is in Nazi occupied Poland... There's no. Black people there. :tearsofjoy: even WW2 movies cop a bad reputation for that and while we know black men fought in WW2 they just weren't that prevelant in any of the stories that are being shown on the film, so there's no black actors.

And people get upset over it and it's just like... Come on, man. I don't know what part of the world the little mermaid is set in, but she probably shouldn't be "white" anyway as I think the Greeks was it??? Idolised mermaids the most so she should be a little bronze, cause the waters are too cold for a mermaid in the north. :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

  11. I imagine there were hand-sewn black Raggedy Anne dolls, but I doubt they were mass produced like that. I could be wrong. It would have had to have been an extremely progressive company.

It's a crime because not everything should be produced mainly for a white audience. It places whites on a pedestal and demeans others. There should have always been black dolls and black heroes and icons, but there weren't because of racism.

Aladdin is the whitest Arab I've ever seen in my life. And I don't know what the hell Mogley is supposed to be. I always thought a white kid who was dirty because he was in the jungle.

And the fact that they chose white settings for Disney movies is just an example of the latent racism that exists in this country. I'm sure there is black folklore from around the world they could make into movies. They just don't, because they cater to white people who don't want to see a cartoon about voodoo.

But Disney is just limited in its scope as well. It's become formulaic. There could easily be something like 101 Dalmations except with black people. All they make movies about is beautiful women falling in love with handsome men.

Speaking of which, the situation has gotten better for black people, but what about ugly people and fat people? We'll always be second class citizens for superficial reasons.

    There are black barbies now.

    Are there any Asian barbies?

See I don't hear any Asians complaining much about things. They're too busy with own cultural made products that nobody gives a fuck about haha. Asians mostly stick to Asian stuff haha. Even a westernised Asian knows all their tricks of the trade from their Asian culture and nobody says boo about that. Nobody says. And they draw all their cartoons with big white round eyes which kinda takes the piss but nobody says boo about that either.

    I love Asia!

Its the same with a lot of newer historic movies that display women in like a medieval setting always more emancipated than they really were. If its not historically accurate in those aspects I far less enjoy it.
Unless its a comedy. Like the black night :-D Or a plausible reason is found to mix a black guy in, like the Moor in the Robin Hood movie with Kevin Costner.

    Probably Asian Asians.
But even still in western culture if they are westernised with no accent they still seem to know how to cook and shop for little Asian things you know? Lol. One of my friends is a Chinese girl and she's fully westernised with no Asian accent but she's still very Asian cultured and likes dorky anime things and hello kitty.

I was asking because its logical that african americans want to be representes in toys like barbies and in tv commercials etc. etc.
I don't think africans like in most of Africa are having an issue with it (not entirely sure though. Could be a topical issue in South Africa too.. but it would be for the same reasons then)
