I don't think that this is the point, MrRee. To be made in His Likeness doesn't have much to do with the physical appearence... After all, G-d is not someone/something tangible, right?

To be made like Him seems to be more of a declaration regarding our ability to reason and be aware of our own existence. That's why G-d is sometimes referred to as the Almighty "I AM" - Because Jews/Christians believe He exists independently of all things within the universe.

So, no, G-d doesn't have a penis - He has no use for it. Spirits are just that - Spirit. That is why Jesus said that no one is given for marriage in heaven... Because there is no gender once this flesh is gone, anyways.

How do you come to that conclusion HippieLngstckng when God made man in his image by creating man with a body? That seems to be the whole point of his exercise, given that without the body there can be no original sin etc etc blahdy blah
Regarding our ability to reason, I think it's been amply demonstrated that mankind is more un-reasonable than reasonable in as many ways as one could imagine (yes, I include myself in the assertion).

2] god created woman for man's companionship and not necessarily in his image as he did with man.

You're not thinking about this from a Christian perspective... Not that I blame you, since you're not a Christian... The meat-and-potatoes of the Christian ideology is that we are not only made of flesh. Christ's alleged purpose was to be sent as the Savior of the Human Soul. Would G-d make a body (which is a vehicle, according to His Word as as presented by the Judeo-Christian religion) without a spirit to fill it? That's like having part of a car - a chassis without a motor.

Remember that Genesis records G-d's creation of human beings in Chapter 1 before He fashions the first body from dust and clay in Chapter 2's Garden of Eden. Genesis 1:26 (KJV) And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness... Yadda yadda, so on, and so forth.

Tselem is translated as "image" - The original word means an icon or a phantom, something representative of something else, but not necessarily a tangible item. Demuth was translated as "likeness," meaning the fashion and/or manner of a particular subject. The root, damah, means to compare and devise, to use like means, or apply similar thought processes.

If anything, these things imply that since the essence of our true self is the spirit according to Christians, and since G-d is obviously not a physical, tangible, evidence-causing phenomenon (short of Creation itself, IMO, but that's another story...), it doesn't make sense for Him to have a penis. He's G-d! He could probably feel that orgasmic feeling we feel localized within our genetalia (sp?) throughout His Entire Being, if He wanted to. In short, penises are obsolete insofar as He is concerned.

While I couldn't agree more with your statement here, I'm afraid I wasn't clear enough on what I meant... I was more referring to humanity's ability to have a self-aware existence - to claim an identity we refer to as "I".

I'll have to be more careful so no one gets the wrong idea. Because, seriously - The way humanity acts, I don't know why so many people have such a problem with the theory that we evolved from apes.

I saw a proggy on chimpanzee behaviour, and it showed they organise themselves using the same familial, group, and territorial traits as humans. They even go to war on neighbouring chimps when food/territory is scarce. And they murder antagonists within the group or family. Strange but true.

 

ok well it jsut so happens that my youth pastor taught on this tonight, i asked him wat God meant when he said we were all made in his image, and he said that its not the physical hes talking about, its the way our minds are, how we can determin wats right and wats wrong, and our spirits, so its not a physical thing at all, its deeper than that, it says in the Bible that no one knows wat God looks like, and it is impossible to describe, and impossible for our little human minds to even begin to unerstand, so therefore, god has no penis.

no, we are not as great as him, we are weak, and he is strong ( dont make me sing the damn song) and that goes for our minds as well. im not talking about it like that ,i saying that he put his goodness in all of us, he put his purity in all of us, we were born pure and inocent, like, we are tempted by satan, and sometimes fall for his traps because he clouds our jugdment.
