Like with every movement, some people go overboard, some people come with their own agenda, some people... etc, etc, etc... Women and men are very different. I don't think anyone means to say we're "equal" biologically, or culturally. I have to think hard to find something that is the same for both women and men. All I want is to have the same fundamental rights as men, not only on paper, but de facto. And when it is about something that involves my body and my future, I want to have the last word about it. And men should have the same rights about their own bodies. I think it is common sense. Being a woman is really difficult. Feminists have made it just about bearable. Young people from the wealthier countries may not realize it, but it has made a big difference to have people out there fighting for us. I see so often the old jokes about moving sofas, or opening doors... I know it's just a joke, for people can't be that ignorant and short sighted. Some kind, strong men will still insist they move the sofa and some people like opening doors to women. Some kind women still insist they cook for their men. These things, when they can be a matter of choice, are for every person to decide and do what he/she feels comfortable with. We're very different. Women are still the ones who get pregnant and deliver babies. The differences between us are, sometimes, that obvious. Sometimes, it's subtle. I want both of us to be respected and that our differences shouldn't be used to justify any of our rights being crushed, or ignored. Be it male, or female.
