The following riots/protests: Meadow Well Estate (Tyneside, North Shields) Elswick (Newcastle) Brixton, Hackney I'm sure there will be more in light of the virus and the idiot that is our current pm.
No, but I know about the Wapping one, the GCHQ dispute, the Saltley Coke depot (during the Miners strikes) - I was there !!!
I have been around long enough to remember all the shit that has gone down in the UK since late 60's when I first became aware of the gross injustice that prevailed and still does in the UK. I hope against hope that this virus and the measures required to try to keep it in check do not have people feeling the need to take to the streets in protest. We can but wait and see.
Power to the people only works if the people are united in a common cause. In the UK right now that is never going to happen. Political decisions being made are clearly designed to divide and conquer rather than unite unfortunately.
The Meadow Well (North Shields) riot was a protest against the deaths of two car thieves. Their car burst into flames after hitting a lamp post during a high speed chase. Elswick (West End of Newcastle) seemed to be a group of out of control youths petrol bombing a boarded up pub and abandoned buildings. What's worse joyriders were making handbreak turns in the middle of the blooming street. Just FYI.
I only remember the one in North Shields (The Meadow Well Housing estate). I had a friend who used to live there.
Meadow Well. Used to be called something else but I don't recall what. That was a bad one. Most of the protests start out with good intent I think but become riots when bad eggs start urging violence. Alcohol often plays a part as well as zenophobia.
Yes. They were. Whenever you have, in this case, local residents, pelting the police with rocks and bottles, burning down buildings and blocking streets. It's called a bloody riot. Protests often turn violent.
Given the more recent events of this past weekend, do you wish to revise your statement and hopes Sister ???
