    The Bill of Rights refers to the first 10 amendments of the US Constitution. Introduced by James madison to the First United States Congress in 1789... and came into effect on December 15th 1791 (after being ratified by 3/4ths of the States)

    Amendments

    * First Amendment – Establishment Clause, Free Exercise Clause; freedom of speech, of the press, Freedom of Religion, and of assembly; right to petition,

    Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

    * Second Amendment – Militia (United States), Sovereign state, Right to keep and bear arms.

    A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. [5][6]

    * Third Amendment – Protection from quartering of troops.

    No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.

    * Fourth Amendment – Protection from unreasonable search and seizure.

    The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

    * Fifth Amendment – due process, double jeopardy, self-incrimination, eminent domain.

    No person shall be held to answer for any capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

    * Sixth Amendment – Trial by jury and rights of the accused; Confrontation Clause, speedy trial, public trial, right to counsel

    In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district where in the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense.

    * Seventh Amendment – Civil trial by jury.

    In suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise re-examined in any court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.

    * Eighth Amendment – Prohibition of excessive bail and cruel and unusual punishment.

    Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

    * Ninth Amendment – Protection of rights not specifically enumerated in the Bill of Rights.

    The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

    * Tenth Amendment – Powers of States and people.

    The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

    the flaming is a result of cabin fever. look at what happened last year. once people rediscover the sun it will lighten up.

    i concur that the op has not been burdened with an overabundance of schooling. not necessarily their fault. of course, at 27, your schooling should have been better quality, as the system is degrading over time and i am younger than you. i guess im just lucky that im inquisitive in my spare time.

    i think most of us get offended at people who can't find canada on a map, dont know directions besides the bordering states (i have relatives like that in mississippi, some cant tell you if you turn east or west onto the highway) and other basic things we should know. i dont think its knocking on you specifically OP, it is just apparent that you have been done a disservice by the system, and that pisses me off. what ARE we teaching people nowadays? where is tomorrows generation headed? can we stop the tragedy before its too late?

    i have a pocket constitution sitting on my desk right now. you can get them for about $2 in college bookstores, and probably in regular bookstores too. its important to be familiar with it, its the rulebook for the government, albeit mostly ignored by them. they ignore it because "we the people" are no longer widely familiar with it. if we want to straighten out the government we have to fight by the real rules.

    Your question and this response didn't exactly make clear what you were looking for... there have been some very helpful responses here... but you do need to meet us half way in order for us to be able to help you.

    Seems like a pretty easy assignment to do yourself... for you to get out of the experience what you can, you'll need to do the work yourself and not have strangers on a forum do the research for you.

    I know much on politics and the government. I'll help, in fact I kind of want to help considering you live in America and can't write a paragraph on the bill of rights, jesus our schools are failing miserably.

    This is what I like to refer to as the "laziness factor"
    A 5th grader can gather information on google and write 5 sentences on the Bill of Rights, that is extremely elementary.

    The internet really is destroying society, in theory we have all the information in the world at our fingertips, but no one uses it to learn. I mean when I was in school there was sparknotes which a chapter in a book would be condensed into a few paragraphs and main themes explained, but damn it still took a little bit of effort.

    Like on yahoo answers lat night, I saw a question(I assume from a 10th or 11th grade since that's when most schools read it) on To Kill a Mockingbird, some girl swearing she read it, but the questions asked weren't even critical thinking, they were literally, like "what did what's her face waste 50 cents on", point and see questions, just to prove you actually read. Like people won't even put in the effort to cheat anymore, they have other people on yahoo answers or whereever do it for them.

    And To Kill a Mockingbird was a fuckin great book too.

    Well, I use it to learn, I think it's great.
    I spent 3 hours last night reading articles on wikipedia, I start with one, then see a link that interests me, and go read that, and it only ends until I'm too tired to read anymore.
    The internet is amazing, the problem is that people just don't have the drive to learn anything anymore.
