I am new to these forums but cannot find any threads on cycling

I enjoy cycling but haven't done much recently. I commuted to work yesterday; the first time in months, and cycled some extra miles on a route I have only done one more time this year. I should do it more to get my mojo back.

I cycled road bicycles for about 5 years and visited several places while doing so, such as the Sellaronda in the Dolomites in Italy on my own and went to Majorca with a few cycling friends. I also entered a few sportives around the UK. I've stopped riding on road bicycles now because the roads and some drivers are dangerous. I've had a few friends being knocked off their bikes and now think it's not a matter of if, but when it would happen to me

I now have a gravel bike, of which I have been doing for 2 years now, and I ride around the tracks and trails of North Tyneside in the NE England. It's impossible to stay off the roads though as all the tracks and trails are connected between them. I would like to gravel grind where it all started in USA if I ever have the money to do so.

This is the right place to post this. :)

In the states, at least the state I live in, we have hundreds maybe thousands of miles of biking trails. Through cities, around lakes, through woods, etc. Opportunity and safety for bicyclists to enjoy. ;)

I'm trying to start riding my bike again around the back roads here. Lots of hills. If fact I was just thinking of getting the road bike out...but I'm getting lazy.
I used to ride pretty often, road and mountain bikes but have slacked off over the years.
Now if I do 10 miles, on the road, up and down hills I consider it good.

A resurgence of bicycling is what we hope for!

My nephew has made career being a bicycle mechanic. Living in Portland now, he's grooving on the biking scene to found there.

I am trying to get him to ride down through California all the way to Baja Sur so he can come visit.

    Ha!

What's his face... Hans Solo... did it last year on his bicycle, round trip from Los Angeles!

So did I, but then I got cataracts, and the pandemic hit. I sold the bikes. I got the cataracts taken care of and am moving to a new town, and there is a bike path right by the new house. Hmm.

Something is giving you a message here... I had my cataracts fixed and it was like WoW! The colors have returned and I don't even need glasses to read anymore.

Biking in the countryside sounds way better than forging thru a city's traffic. Less dangerous also :)

Yes, the colors have returned, but I do need reading glasses.
I was almost hit by a car while road biking. Scared the hell out of me. Probably just go back to easy mountain biking.

Yes I bought a book on gravel riding "Gravel Cycling", by Nick Legan. and it shows quite a lot of gravel riding events in the states, eg:
    Dirty Kansa
    Crusher in the Tushar
    Rebecca's Private Idaho
    Grinduro
    and many more

There are some described in other parts of the world too, including one near me, the Dirty Reiver, in Kielder Northumberland. I've never entered yet.
