I have felt this way for awhile now, and I was watching a little bit of the MTV music awards last night, and happened to see Kanye West talking. he was talking out loud like he was running for office and I thought,...ok, tell us you are running for office now...and a second later he did....
he said he will be running for Presidency in 2020......

My mouth dropped to the floor.

I don't know kanye, so this is not a judgement, but when Kim gets to be first lady, she will be moving an entire fair complete with rides, concession stands, etc... to the white house lawn instead of to her sister's property for her child's birthday party. Sorry, i could not resist that.
yes, i did find that gross with so many people in the world who have nothing.

It's not a joke... Politics is rigged and it's not in our favor.

It has become a very weird joke in my lifetime. But a political campaign brings in a lot of money. It could be that Kanye just wants to tap into that. Running for president with a criminal history probably won't help him much. But who knows by then it may be normal for politicians. It's also pretty stupid to shoot for the top office without any political experience at all. So I am inclined to see this as both a publicity gag since he's otherwise insignificant and as a possible money scam. Anyone who would vote for him would only prove themselves to be lacking in an education. If someone like him is supposed to be president, we should already have strippers on the supreme court.

not just a joke, but a farce. Its ridiculous. Freakin' Donald Trunp is the biggest contender and he used to do reality tv. We've hit a new low. Idiocracy is here.

Meliai, that is when I thought politics have become ridiculous, too....and idiocracy was the exact word I was thinking.....I stopped taking politics seriously when Al Gore was cheated out of his Presidency by Bush and that whole farce. At least, he spoke about environmental issues....like him or not.

Oh politics doesn’t just cover farce but many other theatrical genres – tragedy, melodrama, slapstick even fantasy and far too often horror.

Entertainment industry types have always declared running for office and tapped out later. Only a select few actually follow through.

I read in an ancient history book that the M in MTV originally stood for "music".

It did stand for music, until MTV took to reality tv, then, down it went.

I do not think i need to refresh you all with, Singled out or The real world. That is to say the great quality mtv programs of the 90's.
Oh i forgot that other quality MTV program of Cribs. Nothing like learning what singing about Money, Drugs, Bitches and whores can get you. [IMG]
Sad thing is, tv and music has not changed.
    AND
    Neither has politics.

JFK was the last hopeful president until he spoke of shutting down the Reserve Bank then, well, we all know what happened.

In the early 80s MTV played music videos which were simulcast through an FM stereo channel that came through the cable. You could crank them and seriously jam. I turned a dining room into an MTV pit with 2 sofas and an overstuffed chair with a meager coffee table. I left the sound on the TV way down low and had a speaker in every corner. Even with the Reaganomics recession we managed to have a good time back then.

Watching MTV these days is like watching a collection of disconnected talk shows. It's as if my grandparents had infiltrated and painted a cool face onto dull content. I spend most of my ear time on Alt. Nation and First wave these days. Satellite radio is OK, but the DJs are a bunch of twits.

I don't know what to say ... I find the idea of Kanye West running for president, err ... amusing.

I am not taking him seriously at all, but the idea of him ACTUALLY BEING president I find somewhat less amusing. If this came to fruition the rest of the world would laugh at usm(or worse) ... especially the chinese. Huehuehue :p
