I was thinking about this this morning and how much the potential cost would be for one person to send it overseas and it got me wondering to keep overseas shipping costs to a minimum how about everyone from that country chip in a little bit to send it? And have it so that it gets to everyone in the country before its sent?

 

Some sort of traveling salesman problem you say.......... I'll get my quantum computer.

Maybe we should separate the names into differenc continents/states/countries etc, so it won't be flying all over the place? Like whoever starts with it, say they are in the US, sends it to someone else in the US and everybody sends to US people, then when the US is done send to UK then to rest of europe then Aussie, or where ever ^^ Plese someone understand that xD

whenever I get everyone's addy I will sort everything out geographically and to make sure shipping is as low as possible!!

We can put an envelope in the box that we can each put a lil cash in to get it overseas... and back. I will start the box if that's cool with everyone.... and we can do the list thing where you cross off what you took and write down what you put in!

the money envelope is going to have to be a huge trust system deal... so I am only going to let established members in, like I said. no offense to anyone who wants in who we don't know as well, you just never know sadly.

whoever is the one who ships overseas, only take the money out of the envelope that you need, and use some of your own money to cover shipping, too. if there is extra money, good... cause it will have to get to UK and possibly even Aus if Glen and Enjoy want in.

Sounds good Z! Also what about keeping regular checks on the weight of the box so we all know how much we need to spend on shipping.

Money could be a problem what with different currency rates so to ensure that no one is accused of taking too much money out maybe the US people all chip in for postage use that to send it to the UK and then the UK people all chip on and so forth if that makes sense. Another suggestion could be that if you are sending it to someone in your own country, use your own cash to pay for postage? Or why don't people chip in via paypal and then the last person in the country use that money to send abroad? I dunno I'm just throwing in ideas.

Also, can I request that if the box is on route to me to notify me first? It turns out that I have no idea when I'm moving now as my job app fell through and I although I'm gonna be here a while yet I'd hate it to be randomly sent to me when I'm not here and it get fucked up but I really want to be involved.

 

See previous post about traveling salesman problem, with more than a handful of participants finding the most efficient rout becomes _VERY_ computationally expensive, a 15 participant asymmetric TSP has 87 178 291 200 possible routs. What you mean to say is you'll be using zilla style heuristics to closely approximate the most efficient rout.

Also I would like to mention the UK posties have a bit of a reputation for being light fingered so it's be best not to make the box appear to contain anything worth nicking, and if that "border patrol" program or whatever it's called is anything to go by then Australia lets absolutely fuck all into the country, especially things like untreated wood, seeds, food and natural fibers.

 

yesh we will def keep a track on the box, tracking #s are good. to send within country you have to spend your own money but yeh, I think people from US/canada should all chip on when it's time to go over to UK/ireland and vice versa. maybe paypal would work but i think it might end up being more of a hassle than it's worth, cash might be best if people can do their part and all that

and pypes yeh I will be going by what I calculate will be cheapest... lyke it might be cheaper to send to UK from certain cities so I'll look into that. and enjoy doesn't seem too interested anyway so blerg.

seems it'd actually be more interesting (even though more expensive) to go from country to country than within the country.... just my opinion.
