Are you the type that virtually depends on these for everything?
Would you be lost and sick without them? do you let them decide what kind of drug or medicine you need? Were your parents like that?

Or do you hate the proffession itself and think you can be your own physician, even better than they could?

I don't trust any of them. Most of the public looks upon these people as if they're infallible gods. Doctors and shrinks (most of them) alike are really nothing more than pill pushers for the big pharmaceutical companies. If people learned to take care of themselves, they wouldn't need these people, and big-pharma would go belly-up tomorrow. We are told that medical technology is better than ever, yet the public is more unhealthy than ever. The so-called "health" system is based on treating, not curing.... let alone prevention. We're talking about a MULTI-BILLION dollar industry that profits off the public being fat, sloppy pigs.

Honestly, I am very suspicious of doctors. I think most of them are charlatans who are only in it for the money and prestige. Yet, society hails these people when they're simply products of the same establishment that profits from you being sick. I look at doctors in pretty much the same light I look at politicians and lawyers.

And this is coming from a person who works around doctors on a daily basis. I know what they're like. While some of them are in fact decent, well-meaning people, many of them are blinded by their own success and brainwashed by the medicial establishment they've been indoctrinated into. Most of them believe the only way to better living is with toxic and dangerous drugs. Many of them are clueless when it comes to proper health and nutrition, and this shows in their own health and decadent lifestyles. I know many doctors who are overweight, eat garbage, and even smoke. Would you want these people treating you when they cannot even keep themselves in shape?

The health system in this country (and across most of the world) is a total joke. Let me just say that if I was dying of cancer, I would not take their toxic poison or deadly radiation. I would go for an alternative, natural, more effective treatment.

Well there's just something about the fact that they actually went to school for years and years and likely have years of experience in the field behind their belt before I even see them, and the fact that I work at Dairy Queen, using mustard to absorb heat from burns...I really think they might just know a tad more than I do.

As far as psychology goes, I'm obsessed with the whole field itself, addicted to its history, but I think that they too often diagnose people with things they don't really have so that they keep coming back. Case in point, my friend was just a whiny attention seeking bitch for a long time and she ended up taking a wild range of medications that treated her for you name it from bipolar disorder to schizophrenia. Turns out it was just teenage angst. Who knew? And the psychologist I went to misdiagnosed me, didn't even try to find out if I had episodes in the past (and I had, severe ones at that), so all in all it was a waste of time. I think that psychology needs to be cleaned up majorly and oh how I'd love it to be hailed in textbooks as the one who did. Now if only I could start college...lol.

Being in one of the fields listed.... I trust Mds and Psychologists. But like all professions there are good and bad. if you don't believe of feel comfortable with your dr. try another one. There are so many. The same goes double with psychologists. There has to be a connection with a person that you are going to reveal details of your life too.

I rarely ever visit doctors. I just tough it out most of the time. I only ever go if my parents make me.

I wouldn't mind being a doctor of some sort when I grow up, though.

    I don't like doctors.
I am interested in psychology and psychoanalysis as a field of study connected to literature and philosophy only.

You are seriously asking : Do you let a doctor decide what kind of drug or medicine you need ? and who, in your opinion, should decide this, if not a person who studied medicine for atleast 7 years..

as guros? no, anyone who thinks of themselves as a guro who doesn't need to learn anymore are out of there mind.

my general physcian - i wouldn't trust him with knee surgery (or anything that needed a closer look), which is why i went to a specialist to get a full diagnosis, which is why i went to physical therapy before and after the surgery - i wouldn't be able to function like i do now if i just decided to do it on my own...but for general crap when i can't figure out whats going on, then yea i do trust him, he rarely ever put me on any meds, just helped me understand what i needed to do to get better

Well, it is after all a question.
I could ask also, do you let the cook decide what food you should eat, or do you choose yourself?

You have the freedom to answer any way you want.

I was trying to be neutral in my questioning, and not let my opinion in the matter influence answers, yet surprisingly I have liked answers from both sides, however I do despise the idea that some people could easily heal themselves with proper diet (something you can read in a book about natural healing and prevention) and instead eat fifty pills a day prescribed by some greedy quack, who would want you to keep coming back for more.

In the seventies there was a revival of the natural aproach to health, and many books came out in that decade, so various people who would usually go straight to drugs (prescribed or illegal) to make themselves feel good instantly, changed drastically to eating properly, abstaining from excess draining of energy, kept track of their biorythms, studied astrology, and discovered that they could live very healthy lives without ever visiting a doctor even once in a decade.

But that would mean that doctors are not necessary.Which sucks cause most of them spend over a decade studying. So you really mean that what leads doctors is greed or hunger for prestige or something ? I personally think that medicine is one of the most noble callings.and I ve just finished highschool and now am preparing for studying medicine. And I am not greedy...

The doctors in America amaze me.

    As Matt said, "Pill Pushers".

I went to a doctor yesterday, to get a prescription re-filled. I have never seen him before, have no medical records, and he took my word for the medication I'm taking... without even checking anything. I could have told him that I take methadone for my heroin rehab, and he would have given it to me. Then he proceeded to give me a free month's supply of Lexapro... without me even asking for it.

    Fucken doctors.

I did try to take one Lexapro... made me sick, literally.

At least the visit only cost me 35$ with my insurance.

psychiatrists or therapists, i havetn had a ton of luck with. ive tried seein ga few, but none have really truly helped yet. i have no problems with identifying my issues, its fixing/resolving them that i cant seem to do. even with their help. *shrugs* i may eventually find one who can, well, help me

Better to expire on your own terms...

The U.S. health care system is an interventionist entity interested in maintaining a condition for the purpose of pushing unnecessary medication and prescribing costly procedures intended as much for the purpose of redistributing wealth as for the treatment of disease.
