As far as getting the medical marijuana card. I know logically you have to just go to another doctor that would fill it out, but the thing is how do I know who would or wouldn't? This doctor has known me since I was 16, and I came to her with honesty and respect, not like a druggie looking to score. So, I thought she was the best option. But, she said no becuase I have no medical condition that falls under the list of medical conditions that are on the list (LOL, I did that on purpose. It sounds funny. Leave me alone!), I do have one medical condition that is on the list, but considering it's not actively harming me, she couldn't sign the papers. I told her what about all the weight loss I have had recently, and my lack of appetite. She said she understood that, but without a medical condition, she couldn't sign the paper. Couldn't, as in morality as a doctor. Then she was like, how about we try to see what is wrong with you first, weigh our options for treatment, and if you're still having trouble I will sign the papers, but as of now you don't have a medical condition that would require the use of marijuana. You're in pain and having trouble eating, but that is not a medical condition.

That was about a year or so, when my weight was really low.

I feel like I am betraying her seeing another doctor, but I really do want the medical card. I won't abuse it, or anything. I just want the pain to stop. And to eat okay again. All I have right now is Tramadol, and some other medications, but Tramadol is the only painkiller I have. It's a good painkiller. Real good. But, I don't want to get addicted to it, or whatever.

Anyways, I live in Chicago. So, anyone in Chicago, going through Good Intentions, knows what I should do? Any doctors that pay little or are covered by some sort of insurance that you know of?

I probably should just start growing it myself. I used to love gardening, Lol!

I didn't get a signature from my primary care doctor either. But I payed top dollar and went to a specialist who does medical marijuana in the LA area. She was awesome. She wasn't just handing out cannabis licences to everyone who came through the door either. She wasn't afraid to be honest, but was also caring and kind. Don't be afraid to go to a really good doctor! Sometimes it's worth the money. If you think your condition is only borderline serious though you might want to consider other modes of treatment because they will not give you your money back if they have to turn you away.

To be honest unless you are near death or VERY sick in some way you will not get a medical card from your primary care doctor. Keep in mind the legal gray area of cannabis. Your doctor is taking a big risk prescribing it. The DEA could arrest her and ruin a career that took decades to make. She has also been taught for years that pharmaceuticals are the answer for everything. Pot does not have the consistent visits from reps telling the doctor how fantastic it is. Other drugs do and there is a lot of pressure to prescribe those drugs.

In other states you can go to doctors who specialize in cannabis recommendations. For whatever reason they are willing to take the risk and most times you get a card if you ask. I don't know how easy that is in Chicago.

It sounds like your doctor may be open to it in the future but she needs to establish a course of treatment for her own safety. That means taking drugs that will probably be less effective and give you side effects. But she needs to see those side effects. She can not simply go to pot as the first solution with the current drug laws. If she is going to do it she needs to cover her ass.

Oh, I totally understand my doctor's decision to not fill out the papers. It wasn't anything like you would think. I wasn't acting like a druggie, she didn't get weirded out and lectured me abouthow marijuana is the all hell sin of life, and I didn't act like a bitch just becuase I didn't get what I want.

Chicago is hard to get a medical card, at least for me. People I know who don't have any medical conditions have gotten it, but I don't know what my issue is. I just don't know. I think it's becuase I am taking the honest route. Instead of going to any bootleg doctor that would prescribe me anything, as long as I complain about it correctly. Tell them I have rushing thoughts and I can't sit down, I get addies. Tell them I have these mood swings and I will get Xanax. I know enough schemers in my life that can get any drug BY A DOCTOR easily. But, I don't want to do that, just to get marijuana. I have a legit medical illness, several actually, and I have this other one that is unknown, and still in the progress of being diagnosed. I could be dying right now. It's not normal that I can't eat. THAT'S NOT FUCKNG NORMAL!

Yah I agree with the other replies and suggest going to a doctor who specializes in providing scripts for Medical Marijuana. There are specific conditions per state which qualify an individual for Medical Marijuana, so I suggest doing some research on what those are, to see what conditions best fit or approximate your condition(s).

Illinois isn't exactly the free flowing medical marijuana state that others have become. If you were in California it would be much easier. Seems you can get mmj out that way for anything and everything.

I wish it was just legal all around already.

Maybe because i live in a state where it isnt legal for medical and making this suggestion might seem like going back to the stone ages for those who can procur it legally....but can you not just get it illegally? Or grow your own? I know youre trying to do it the honest way but you shouldnt have to jump through all these hoops just to self medicate.

It's much easier for the doctor if you can substantiate your illness with a medical diagnosis. Mine was sciatica, so I brought records of my hospital visits that said what it was for and how it was treated. If you have been hospitalized for your illness, go to that hospital's records department and ask them what they can do for you. They will probably need to know approximately when you were hospitalized.

If you haven't been hospitalized, have you at least been seen by doctors for this problem? What was your diagnosis? This can be the key to getting yourself a medical marijuana card.

Actually, I was considering growing it myself. I know the general guidelines of gardening, considering I was in Garden Club. I know, JROTC, Garden Club, Library Assistent, I don't know what I was doing in my teens. But, I still remember the basis. However, this is weed. Not like growing flowers to make your school look pretty. Lol! As for getting it on the streets, there is issues with that. I end up meeting shady people. I can't get it from a friend, or a friend of a friend. it has to be from a legit dealer, which I'm so over that drama. There is a guy two houses down from me that sells weed, and he isn't shady. I mean, he has a girlfriend that has no arm, is going to college, and works. But, I can't really get a hold of him. I don't have his number, and I never see him around. It's not like I can just yell his name by his apartment complex. That might draw attention. He actually asked me to smoke with him a few times when he got stabbed saving this girl. But, I told him no, becuase I didn't really know him well.

The medical condition I first went to my doctor with was Hydrochaplus. But, my last severe attack from that was like in 2006 or something like that. Other than that, I don't suffer any secondary illnesses from it. No seizures, no vomiting, no temporary blindness, no lost of speech and cognition etc. The most I may suffer from is a mild tension headache, but that can be from anything, not particularly from the Hydrochaplus. So, that is why my doctor rejected me. I have the medical condition, but it's not affecting me. All my other medical conditions don't qualify. Plain and simple. Now, this new thing that has been going on with me is still in the progress of being diagnosed. I haven't been admitted to the hospital. I wait until it's really life threatening before I go into an ER. But, I have been to the doctor. My diagnosis is still up in the air, so I don't know what is wrong. And I may get diagnosed with something that again doesn't qualify. Yea, that's pretty much where I am right now.

Just because you haven't had an attack doesn't mean that it isn't a viable illness. You should consider getting your paperwork together and taking it to a medical marijuana doctor who will be able to give you a recommendation. You're right to think they may be wary considering the time frame. Just be prepared for whatever answer you get. That's probably all you can do.

Well, that is what she said, only way she can sign the papers is if the medical condition is active. Fuck, if my Hydrochaplus was active, I wouldn't even be able to fucking smoke. It gets really bad, lol. But, I respect and understand where she is coming from. I'll try to find a marijana doctor. I didn't even know those existed. Hopefully, it won't be too much money. Or, I'll just wait it out to get my other diagnosis, in hopes it qualifies for the marijana medical card. I don't know. She might still not want to sign the papers. Or like I said above, I might get a diagnosis that doesn't qualifies.

    Anyways, thanks.
