Why else would he stand in front of a moving car or intentionally tick of terrorists w/automatic weapons? What's worse was he seemed intent to take Marty and Einstein (the dog) with him. This was due to his up to then repeated failures. Of course Doc was nuts. Infact in one reality he succeeded when the Libyans shot him in front of Marty.
