All I am saying is that there are two types of Jews. The Sephardic Jews, who are Semitic and hail from the Middle East, and the Ashkenazi, who by definition are non-Semitic and hail from Europe. Do you even know what Semitic means? First of all it has NOTHING to do with race and everything to do with language. So your black and white comparison falls flat, m'kay?
I was alluding to the iron curtain (like Soviet russian Communism) and the green curtain (like in the Wizard of Oz) as being two different kinds of curtains, yet Matt sees them both as curtains. I was trying to illustrate his fatalistic thoughts. Also, I am currently reading Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the Westby Gregory Maguire which is a highly politico-socio commentary type novel.
And I'm sayin that you're wrong about the Ashkenazis and provided you with evidence of it. You've been kind enough to tell me what "Semitic" means more than once. Yet I do not see what it has to do with anything. You may not hate all Semitic people, but you sure do hate Jews.
How can people be so heartless How can people be so cruel Easy to be hard Easy to be cold How can people have no feelings How can they ignore their friends Easy to be proud Easy to say no And especially people Who care about strangers Who care about evil And social injustice Do you only Care about the bleeding crowd? How about a needing friend? I need a friend How can people be so heartless You know I'm hung up on you Easy to be proud Easy to say no And especially people Who care about strangers Who say they care about evil and social injustice Do you only Care about the bleeding crowd How about a needing friend? Oh need a friend How can people be so heartless How can people be so cruel Easy to be proud Easy to say no Easy to be cold Easy to say no C'mon Easy to give in Easy to say no Easy to be cold Easy to say no Easy to say no
Except I never said that. I never said they weren't Jews. I said they were not related to the Sephardic Jews, who are Semitic as they hail from the Middle East. The Khazars merely coverted to Judaism, but have no ancestral claim to the land that is today Israel.
Yes, and you forgot to mention that the term was coined for political reasons, to shut people who who asked legitimate questions about Israel and Zionism, which has for many generations exploited the Jewish people.
Matt, read it again. Only a complete idiot would assume otherwise, but not for the reasons you stated.
The biggest Yiddish speaking community in the world was wiped out by the Holocaust. Those that emigrated to Israel were encouraged to speak Hebrew. And the big Yiddish centres in New York assimilated after a few generations. I'm confused. How does language have to do with it?
I don't have to read it. The word Semite does not apply to 90% of Jews and that is a simple fact that has been made perfectly clear by people such as Arthur Koestler -- himself an Askenazi Jew.
Languages are divided into families based upon their geographic origin. Not their current regions of use, but where the root language developed. For example, Korean (Han Gug Mal) is from the Ural-Altaic family. Now how could Koreans have come from the Ural mountains of Western Siberia? Well they didn't exactly, but their language originated there. As did modern Turkish and several other languages. Logic would dictate that most Asian languages are based on Chinese, one of the oldest unchanged languages still in use. Logic would be incorrect. Different family.
The concept of "Semitic" peoples is derived from Biblical accounts of the origins of the cultures known to the ancient Hebrews.
It's a clever book. Makes a lot of references to various organized religions, politics in the modern world today. It's kindda like Animal Farm, but with Wizard of Oz characters actually. I am enjoying it. I wanted to see the play on Broadway when I went to NYC a couple weeks back, but I didn't have time. :">
I don't understand. Looking up a definition will not allow me to understand what you are trying to convey. *sigh*
Yes, and those Semitic people mentioned in the Bible hailed from the region of the Middle East.... not what is today southern Russia.
The bible didn't mention "Semitic" peoples. BUt it was concenient of you to pull out that critical step I mentioned earlier. And I thought Stalin was a revisionist...
