Swearing is evil when a Kurd does it at an ISIS member, but not when an ISIS member does it at a Kurd. :argue:
Okay, I'm not a Christian anymore, but I was. One of the reasons I moved on from it was because I was tired being dictated to on what I could say and couldn't say. If you look at the history of words you will find that many words which at one time were considered cursing no longer are. Words only have the power we give them, nothing more. Just like things like cards, books, game boards, money.... If you consider a word bad, then don't use it. But that doesn't give you a right to tell others they can't. Too many religions now focus on the so-called wrong words and totally ignore the right words. It then become a matter of controlling others rather than right vs wrong.
There once was a girl from Carolina Who always wanted to travel to China But her flight she missed that day As she was stopped by the TSA For she had drugs hidden in her...handbag
Hmmm. Yeah, if you really think about it, they dont add anything to your vocabulary. There are different words that express your thoughts more eloquently than those darn duggit cuss words. Bad. Bad
sometimes i curse to get my fuckin' point across but otherwise there are usually better choices of much more descriptive and exact words that can be used. not cuz i think any word can be "bad" , but they do increase the verbosity of language without offering much fine tuning. being terse and to the point is preferred.
Swearing in the context of the original admonishment not swear is obviously not related to the words you use. To swear at is to curse with conviction. You can also swear which is to commit with conviction and this kind of swearing is detrimental in that accident abrogates what is promised. I promised you I would be there but things got in the way, broken promise. All promise is empty all hope fulfilled.
It is a right, of course, people can pretty much choose what they want to say or do, that is the beauty of freewill. But from a standpoint with a relationship with God, i respect him and the gift of life he has given me so i would try my best not to swear as not to abuse that gift.
I think you can get away with saying things like: What the flippin' heck, or, I don't give a rat's behind, etc. Be creative.
