Do you think smoking pot is a good idea overall?

If people are searching for a high, then weed had nothing to do with their misusing other narcotics after finding pot to be a disappointment. It has everything to do with them (the individual person)...not weed.

I hate it when people blame other things for their fuck ups. Hey, how about taking some responsibility for your own actions.

exactly, and maybe these ppl shouldnt have gotten into pot in the very beggining. Pot isnt definitly for everyone. How do you know if it's not for you before you actually start smoking? is the high worth the risk?

I honestly wanna know how many of you guys never tried anything except pot?
I bet even you slinkie who consider this a fuck up have experimented with other stuff after being into pot for a while.

Bisexual god, my first drugs were coffee and cigarettes. I would get a dizzy feeling from the cigs and a caffeine buzz. Did they lead me to experiment with other substances? Maybe, since they preceeded my use of pot by 8 years. But I hardly considered them "drugs" just grown-up behavior (every adult seemed to be a smoker back then). The glue and booze I knew to be drugs and bad for me too. Hence, the reason I quit soon after starting that s**t.

At a certain point in my late teens I began reading about mystical experiences. Some people were saying marijuana was a way to experience the mystical. So, when I was able to scrape together a few bucks I bought a nickel bag, put some in a corncob pipe and entered into the mystic. It was better than Jesus (and he and I used to be friends). I've never regreted it and have been a steady user since then. Did I try other drugs? Yeah, some acid, mushrooms, and peyote- all mystical drugs. And the sacred poppy, scraping the sap right onto a cigarette. Did I ever think 'ohmygod I'm an addict!'- no because I never was. I was and am an explorer of inner space. I'm not looking to get fucked up, wasted, toasted, burnt out, fried.

Again, its just your opinion that marijuana is a gateway drug. Maybe for some people smoking pot is bad. Maybe they should reconsider why they do it in the first place. I'm just telling you of my experience and it is an experience that many have shared for tens of thousands of years across the planet.

Bisexual god , Read my post above this one. To imply that pot "led" me to try acid, peyote, mushrooms, and opium is ridiculous. I was ready to try those even before my first bowl of pot. I wanted to find out if it were true that some drugs produce deep mystical experiences. Pot just happened to available in the backwater town where I lived.

Maybe you should stop assuming that everyone's experience with pot is like yours.

maybe YOU should do that. I already said many times in this thread that I am not assuming that everyone's experience with pot is like mine I wont repeat again why so just read a few posts above.

Fact: Pot is a gateway drug for a lot of ppl.
why the hell do you guys try to deny it? it's so obvious. Just admit it... pot isnt as dangerous as the government makes it sound but still not harmless.

I experimented with other drugs loooong before I ever smoked pot....not afterward....when I were 14 and 15. Didn't like the powders, or the high that came with them, (I never smoked cigarettes, so I never wanted to smoke joints. Thank you pipe makers!) so I went to weed.
And have never looked back :spliff:

I do on occasion use peyote, but it's strickly for spiritual reasons...not to get blasted.
Otherwise I am monogamous to mary jane and have been for years.

Fact: drugs don't do people, people do drugs.

If you can't do drugs without them doing you, then obviosly you shouldn't do them till you learn to be more responsible. imo

B-God, I never said my experience was the same as everyone elses. I did say that people have used marijauna for tens of thousands of years and that many (if not most) have not had the same experience you are having. You also ranted a bit about amotivational syndrome. That's you not me (and most other pot users). I'm very goal oriented and driven to produce high quality work. I won't tell you what I do but it does require self-motivation and extreme intellectual rigor. Within a small circle of pointy-head geeks I am well-known and a respected authority on my subject. Most of them toke, too.

You are claiming that pot is a gateway drug (a myth if there ever was one). Why are you making that claim? Where's your evidence? I've given you my story. Pot came after trying all the shit that middle-class society approves of (except the Testors).

You are having a bad time with your use of marijuana (and pills too). I am not and never had. I love my marijuana (just like Fats Waller).

ya dude, there is no way you can say that pot is a gateway drug, because everyones experience with the drug is different. Pot does not somehow provide a means/gateway with which people can or will try other drugs. The feeling caused by smoking weed may cause someone to search for other feelings produced by other drugs, but there is no way to say that it was marijuana's fault. Its quite easy to use marijuana as a scapegoat for you own shortcomings and curriosities but it isnt fair IMO.

ps. i feel that alcohol is the true gateway drug, because, by you logic, the feeling produced by alcohol motivated me to try smoking weed and since it is much more easily obtainable, im pretty sure that the majority of ppl try alcohol first.

    quite contradicting huh?

I know many ppl for who marijuana has been a gateway drug. being myself one of these, I believe marijuana is a gateway drug.

You guys say you tried other, harder drugs before smoking. I believe you, but I am sure you are a minority. I tried pot even before trying alcohol and it introduced me to "getting high". but still the alcohol thing has nothing to do with what we are talking about here. I consider alcohol to be worst then weed. Never said otherwise so bringing up alcohol here is quite out of place.

What I am saying here ,is that if I had a son I would certainly prefer if he completly neglected the whole getting high aspect of life coz IMO you have less chances of being successfull if you lead a stoner lifestyle or you could be successfull but still not as successful as if you didnt smoke. Some stoners are high alll day everyday yet they manage to become more successfull then many non smokers, still this ppl are a very small minority.

I've seen many times lack motivation caused by pot and have experinced it myself. So do not try to bullshit me about something so obvious. never heared of kids grades startin to drop after they get into pot? c'mon it's a classic. what are you guys doing? kidding yourself? wanna act like pot is a holy magic beneficial plant sent by the gods to save us?

Once more, if I had a son I would certainly prefer if he didnt "get high". if he wanted to then I probably wouldnt try to keep him form doing it ( it would be usless anyway). but I would prefer if he styed awaya from it.

Being a POt head wont destroy you life, possibly just degrade it a little. but still overall one would be better off without pot.

I would want my kid to 'get high' like I would want my kid to 'get drunk'. Both my parents smoke pot, always have and they... own their own property, business and vehicles outright.

I think the original question sidesteps the greater issue because there is no right answer. The problem is the anti-drug zealots are a lot like religious nuts in that they aren't the least bit interested in hearing objective information that puts marijuana in a realistic light. The same could be said for some very pro-pot folks who would rather think of marijuana as having no negative effects and that no harm could possibly come from its long term use.

The problem is with people. We're more interested in the immediate gratification of yes-men telling us what we want to hear than we are in actually having an open mind about an issue- whether that be religion, politics, drug use, or whatever. I see this here... with some people asking for advice but shutting out something they don't want to hear. They keep asking until someone tells them what they want to hear. We'll never open a mind until the person is ready.

i have to agree that alcohol is more of a gateway. the first time i tried coke was when i was drunk. it lowers your defences. not that i regret doing coke. and ive wanted to do hallucinagens since i first heard about them (before i even wanted to smoke weed) so i really dont think weed is a gateway, if anything curiosity is a gateway drug

After I started using mariuana I found I wasn't that interested in alcohol, in getting drunk. I love my marijuana. I love the way it makes me feel. Drinking just makes me sick the next day. I've ssen too many people act like fools when they drink at parties- get in fights, act and look stupid in the dance floor, puking on the pizza.

Alcohol is probably the first drug everyone does in US society. I'd be surprised if there are pot smokers or hash eaters (like myself) who didn't first start with some liquor or beer back in high school. Maybe we should call alcohol the real gateway drug and quit blaming pot. The history of pot use over the centuries does not support Bisexual God's claim that it is gateway drug.

"I've seen many times lack motivation caused by pot and have experinced it myself. So do not try to bullshit me about something so obvious. never heared of kids grades startin to drop after they get into pot? c'mon it's a classic."

That's your experience, B-G. Marijuana has been used for tens of thousands of years and by many people during that time. It only became associated with the invented "amotivational syndrome" in the 1960's when the ruling elite noticed that the hippies weren't into making tons of money or working as wage slaves. Since many of these "lazy" hippies also smoked pot they blamed it rather than the fact that these people had already rejected the middle-class ethic.

I've used marijuana for over 35 years, B-G. I am very successful in my field, not some lazy drooling idiot living in a pile of garbage. Just as a side note did you know that the man who invented rapid polymerase reaction for analysing small fragments of DNA is an acid head and got the idea while tripping on LSD? Right, pot and other drugs make a person stupid.

"what are you guys doing? kidding yourself? wanna act like pot is a holy magic beneficial plant sent by the gods to save us?"

Maybe it is. How do you think the holyman in this photo below regards marijuana? Or the native people in Veracruz, Mexico who grow a very special red marijuana they believe is the very heart of god? Or the writers of the Hindu Atharva Veda or Zoroastrian Zend-Avesta? To them it is a gift of the gods. The Hindus believed it was a gift from Shiva and so a sacred plant, a divine nectar that dropped from heaven.

thats retarded. there is no lack of motivation, thats entirely caused by a change in either A) social/world philosophy B) priorities. my grades started slipping when i had to stay up until 2 or later every night so i could smoke weed. but when i got my grades back and noticed the slip i had to look at what was actually important to me in life. i have since stopped smoking so late, and smoking on weekdays all together. did i notice a lack of motivation? no. Did i notice my priorities being shifted? yes.
