I think every teacher should be certified capable of teaching children how to share their words and play nice, at any age! Then the kids could run around barefoot more often, because they aren't stepping on each other's toes as often!

This is an old thread but I was just scrolling by...

I think that for regular school activities, footwear shouldn't be enforced. It makes no sense to enforce it. F

physical activity however, it would make more sense to enforce barefoot than not to, since obviously being barefoot improves gait and running posture. Some outdoor running would help them get fit quickly while making their feet soles stronger. It's a pity to see how much we rely on shoes.

For me sadly I was in shoes for most school lessons however for Physical education it was always done in bare feet and was the specified school uniform/kit.

Wait really? I never knew some schools made kids go barefoot for PE. I think the UK does this, are you from there?

Yes really and yeah I'm from UK it was just how it was PE was done in bare feet and honestly I think I owe my love of barefooting now to those lessons and the enjoyment I felt as I ripped off my shoes and socks.

It was only rarely I'd be barefoot in other lessons.

That's lovely! Being barefoot at school should not he enforce at all, but it should definitely be enforced during physical education. And if they are going to make kids go barefoot in PE, they shouldn't just lock up kids in a gym and make them run around on smooth wooden floors. Take them out on the field or along the footpaths around school. Schools should definitely encourage being barefoot but only during PE.

It varies between schools but in my school barefoot PE outdoors was encouraged and I loved doing the cross country barefoot feeling all the different textures underfoot and usually as PE was last period I would walk home barefoot too and as I said this was my big kickstart into lovingly going barefoot.

At my school it was optional to be barefoot for PE. In reality though it was only those who'd lost/forgotten their gym shoes who did so. So for some reason I felt I ought to keep mine on. What an idiot I was! No one was ever barefoot outside though. I remember feeling very jealous (and shocked) when a new friend joined the school from another area and told me they did barefoot cross-country. I wish I'd created a precedent by setting out barefoot myself and see what happened....nothing probably. But it was drummed into me at home to have something on my feet at all times (even indoors).

My kids school they go barefoot for some PE lessons involving martial arts, but in the afternoon on a hot day when their feet are already sweaty and sticky the dirty gym floor basically sticks to their feet, which are 10x dirtier once they get home.

Barefoot cross country sounds like so much fun! Just running across the fields would be so exhilarating! Seeing from your pfp, I assume you are barefoot now, so at least you chose the correct path eventually?
Same with my oldest boy who's turning 9 next month. He goes to karate so it's a 10 minute walk from home. During karate, his feet get super sticky and they always do get really dirty.

As for me when I was a kid I was forced by my parents to keep shoes on all day long even at home

Not a 'rule,' but maybe an option. Chances are, the reason most public places have a 'no barefoot' sign is for their own liability in case you step on something that they should have been aware of, and it cuts your foot/feet, etc.

Even at home? Wow, I know that most people who aren't barefooters don't even wear shoes at home. That must have been miserable.

Same here. We were always to have socks and preferably also shoes on in the house. I finally had enough of that one summer day, and the rest is history!

I went barefoot in PE quite a bit of the time. Learned to "forget" gym shoes, and since we weren't allowed to play in street shoes, I was barefoot. Others in my class did that, too.

Yes, it was not a pleasure. To relax my feet I sometimes did it outside or at school where parents didn't see me. But at school (I live in Russia) barefooting was prohibited, so I was told to put my shoes back on even when sitting at the desk

A sad society we live in. You went back to barefeet which is what matters.

    No.

Lol. I'm disappointed with anyone that says yes for trying to enforce "rules" on society I mean if anybody should know how that feels it's you guys, so no, making barefoot policy to do with anything is contradicting to what I would consider IMO a liberated lifestyle.

I've been doing a bit of thinking and now that I think about it, schools should probably have a barefoot policy. It is in schools that you are taught health, hygiene, expected to uphold manners etc. Kids spend 7 hours a day in school usually, a fairly large chunk of their day. By having kids and teenagers attend barefoot, their health would improve, and their foot would be conditioned by walking around barefoot for so long (although there should be exceptions for classes like shop and chemistry).
