Seems like it's a big joke to the UK. In theory you are supposed to help fund the content of the BBC but the license people have no legal authority to enforce that. The BBC has lots of good content I think it would be worth it and I feel bad for the poor people who get trolled by the British public. I've seen videos online where they come knocking but get told off.
All due respect but you are wrong. The license fee is payable by any one owning a TV and this is law and there are fines to pay if you are caught out not paying. There used to be TV detector vans but yeah I guess they were a bit of a joke. As a Liberal Brit you'd probably expect me to support the BBC but I don't. I hate them.
I pay because I live in a shared house and I'm obliged to chip in. I won't pay when I move out into my own place.
Yup I pay, always have always will.. cos fines Are more, and im not going to jail.. It's just another utility bill, you use them, so you pay for them..simple
Yeah. It's like the Royal Family. This is why Britain is such a great nation. When we go down, we go down together.
when I was in London, I only got a few channels in my hotel room. Is this the case with all television in the UK, or was it just Holiday Inn Express' channels?
No most people have Freeview which comes as standard with new TV sets. It has around 80 channels and loads of radio stations. We got that some time ago when we switched from analogue to digital transmissions. I don't know why your hotel had so few channels.
The detector vans were always fake... Just a van covered in aerials to scare people that they were coming for them.
That all sounds pretty whack Why didnt the government just put the tax onto the cost of the tv in the first place? Or everyone just pays it anyway, like who doesnt have a tv weird
This Is The Very Reason My Relatives Set Sail To Australia In 1852......No Detector Vans Here...... Cheers Glen.
How much is the fee? Just curious. If you have a tv but opt to use streaming services like Netflix instead do you still have to pay it?
