Hank Williams, the songs from OH brother, where art thou and stuff from the 20s-30s-40s, etc before it became rock and roll with a southern accent.
Only the older stuff, really. Big fan of Johnny Cash. Loretta Lynn is also a badass. The older country music had soul, feeling. To me the newer music is distinguishable from pop music only by the accent of the singers.
Is that really country music? Update: It is, I looked it up. It’s actually a music genre I never heard of- “country rock” or “country pop” - never heard of either one.
Here's another favorite - "Home Grown Tomatoes." Home Grown Tomato sandwiches are amazing. I don't mind sharing a little secret: the best tomatoes in the world are found in Hanover County, Virginia. If you find yourself in the neighborhood, visit a farmer's market and buy the ones that are small, red and scarred with thick skins. They taste like candy.
Mostly, no. Taylor Swift is great (the old stuff was country-esque). and I like the work of Stapleton/Timberlake, but not just Stapleton.
You can tell they're New Englanders; nobody 'round here could even be whipped into pronouncing the "O" at the end of "tamater" (unless they're from Atlanta). A crowd favorite; I bet I hear that tune at least a half-dozen times every (non-Covid) Spring & Summer.
We heard a lot of 'country rock' here in the USA in the 1970s. Bands like Firefall, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, even the Eagles did some. Then heavy metal came along...
Though I'm not opposed to some Wolfe Tones on occasion...I play a lot of rebel tunes on the great pipes; they are war pipes, after all.
