First of all, I keep my immediate surroundings clean, so insects don't have to share my living space.

I will not intentionally kill insects because I consider all life as sacred.

never. I used to protest when I saw people stepping on a line of ants.. poor little ants, always being squashed by giants.
I try to avoid them the most I can though.
I once got bit by a spider and that was very bad, because I had a very bad allergic reaction.

since this thread is resurrected, i guess ill answer

my thoughts on this have changed since i first became aware of animal rights. at first, i was only concerned with death. i didn't like death at all, and avoided it at all costs. at that time, i would do nearly anything to prevent a death if i could. now that i've had a bit more life experience, i find that my concern isn't so much with death, but the suffering that occurs in a creature's life. i read a passage from the gita that said 'lament not the living nor the dead' and also where christ said, 'let the dead bury the dead.'

after a lot of thought on the subject, i find i am indifferent to death, but rather, i focus my energy on the suffering of others. so, yea, i kill some insects that attack me, like mosquitoes, fleas, ticks, and poisonous spiders (if they are inside the house or very close to the house...ive got kid's safety to look after). other than that, most insects get an escort to a new home.

on the same note, some environmental agency released 2,500 rattlesnakes in my neighborhood (also known as way the fuck in the boonies), so i occasionally have to kill a snake when there is no other way to capture/release it. i feel kind of bad for doing it, but it doesn't hurt me inside as much as it used to.

I try not to hurt insects (any flies or anything we chuck out) but i inadvertally kill spiders since i dont want to hurt them getting rid of them. But theyre so thin and so fragile and i dont want to break them :(

I don't intentionally kill insects. I'd rather let them be. If something is biting me, I might disturb it so it stops. This works with most insects, but not ticks. Those I have to kill b/c of disease factor and they won't release from their bite unless 1. they're dead or 2. they're done sucking your blood. I don't wait that long for ticks to let go. However, if one is just crawling around on me, I put it outside and hope it doesn't come back with buddies.

It really depends. If i am outside i will not swat flies or kill ants or kill anything really. And recently, we had a wasp infestation. They didnt sting anyone so we just waited about 6 months and they all died off. crazy, i know. we were just too lazy to do anything about it.
but certain things i wont tolerate in the house, such as flies, friut flies, anything near my food basically.

Unrelated-but Ms. Oh!- do you know the easiest and most efficient way to rid your kitchen of fruit flies? Leave a glass of wine out with a drop of liquid dish soap. It's simple and doesn't require a lot of chemicals that are not conducive to cooking.

My biology professor did his doctorate research on the mating patterns of a certain species of fruit fly and is world expert on the subject. People hear that and automatically ask what the best method is for getting rid of the flies and that's his answer. Take it from a fruit fly expert!

    Peace and love

i dont & i dont allow my kittys to either. if i see 1 in the house or their chasing one ill capture it (at w/e risk) & release it. if i notice some1 about to kill one ill do what i can to stop them even if it means knocking them over. i care more for everything other than humans

if it's going to bite me.. yes i attack first..

spiders and other harmless bugs i catch and remove from the house.

oddly enough i tend to accidently eat a bug about once every two weeks! i started counting summer of 2006 and i'm up to 30. :puke: they just fly into my mouth or nose.. am i a bug suicide machine? maybe they just want to really really be a part of me!

I try my hardest not to. Sometimes I'll accidentally kill one walking around.

We have this spray-can "repellent" that sprays every 7 minutes. So we don't have flies :D I don't think it kills insects, just repells them, because we don't have flies all up our window sills like alot of people have.

As for fleas, we kill them on our cats because it's not fair or healthy for the cats to have them!

the arthropoda are really interesting:) I remember being on a meditation retreat where I wasn't speaking, reading, writing, etc for 10 days. I spent time watching ants. If I were sitting along a ledge, and an ant came up to me (one of the big red type, the black ones mind their own business), it would go into some kind of defensive stance, and then upon realizing that I wasn't gonig to smash him, run away. Five minutes later it would return with friends, and the same process would occur. I would make threatening gestures and wonder, why do they all use the same defensive technique, with their front legs out and their abdomens in the air. Is it a biological trait? Or an learnt ability? Learnt through example or some form of communication? Do ants on the other side of the world, or even in the next province, do it the same way. We're much the same in some ways.

The next day I came back to the same place, and there were so many ants on the ledge that I couldn't even sit down. As I drew near to watch, I noticed that none of them were really going anywhere, they were just standing around and "patrolling", not accomplishing anything in terms of getting food, or other fundamental jobs that one would assume an ant must spend most of it's time doing. As I drew even nearer, all (100+) ants on the ledge assumed a defensive pose, reminding me of mass armies saluting Hitler, or something along those lines.

    Anyways

Ants cannot climb over a smear of automotive grease. In a way I rather admire ants as they are far more co-operative with each other than people are. Today ants were harvesting a bit of icing I had cut off from a cinnamon bun I had bought. To save them the bother carrying the icing all that way I just took all the icing outside and dumped it straight on the ant nest.

Well I sure as hell kill fleas and ticks and worms or any other parasite that comes near one of my companion animals. I do not kill bugs otherwise when possible, but I will if they bite me or one of my dogs or cats.

I'm not perfect- that's for sure!

I love spiders and could never kill one. I don't chase flies either. Mosquitoes can get annoying in the summer so sometimes. And ticks I always destroy, deadly little fuckers.
