Do you/Have you spoken to your children about sex and masturbation?

There was a previous thread about whether or not you father ever spoke with you about masturbation. The overwhelming majority of responses were, sadly, very negative. Growing up and learning about everything by myself, I swore I would be open with my children. I would like to find out, for those of us who have children, At what age did you speak to your children, and how in depth did your conversation go?

As for myself, I have 3 grown children, 2 sons and a daughter. I had the talk with them when they were each 8 years old, but it was not a one time talk. The conversation was revisited and became more detailed over time. I only gave a little information in the beginning to see how things went. I was always honest and told each of my kids that if they ever had any questions, they were free to ask. It started with the birds and bees. About a week later I followed up to see what they remembered and if they wanted more information. Over the course of a few weeks, the conversation began to include masturbation. Nothing negative was said. It’s natural, it’s normal. It’s healthy, it feels good, everyone does it.

Sex was something that was wonderful and incredible, and with a loving partner it was even better. I even went so far as to tell them about my vasectomy and explained that was so that their mother and I could be intimate with each other whenever we wanted without fear of pregnancy.

My kids were always attentive. When asked questions, they knew the answers. That was a promise I made to myself that I kept.

 

My only child is a daughter, and it didn’t seem appropriate that I, as her father, should broach the subject to her. That was her mother’s job. I don’t know if my wife ever did so though. My late wife claimed that she herself never masturbated, although she did admit to letting the bath water stream over her tenders during spells when I was away on business trips. I gave her a very generic response about how when we get older and our bodies change we have certain feelings, and it's natural, etc, etc.

I plan to have a more in-depth conversation with her sometime in the next year, but I have a feeling she has begun exploring herself a little because I've walked in on panicked shuffling under the covers and guilty looks...lol.

Yes my ex-wife and I talked to them about sex, both in relation to this is how babies are made as well as people do it for pleasure.
Talking about masturbation was limited to my son. Only in a sense that everyone does it, don't be ashamed of it.
I never talked one on one with my daughter about it. That is not a fathers job. That is for the mother. Talked to her plenty of times about sex, avoiding pregnancy, not allowing a boy to push you into it if you do not want to. etc. etc.
