There are patterns available for all the standard sizes, where all that is taken into account.

I have a couple of yardsticks in the house. They are indispensable tools when hanging wall coverings.

I had one, but cut it into lengths appropriate to prop up the sagging cushions in the sofa.

The question is Do any of you have a pica pole?

I don't have a pica pole but I do have 4 yardsticks. 3 of the yardsticks are from various places in Iowa. They had fallen into a void in a rolltop desk I once had.

i do not personally posses, a three foot long, ridged, measuring device. other members of the household in which i live, might. this is unknown to me.

i do however, posses many other measuring devices, including graduated flexible tapes in a variety of lengths, including 25 feet, and 100.

also several taylor's tapes, who's standard length, i do not at the moment recall.

also one of those ultrasonic measuring devices, that pointed at a clear hard surface, will display the distance from that surface to itself.

also several rigid measuring scales, marked off in popular model building scale units.

just no "yard stick" as such.

(also none of these are marked off in units of pica or elete, which were once the standard font widths of mechanical typewriters)

(i suppose picachu, must have been born in one)

I have a metal fret scale... It's almost 3 feet long but the markings would only make sense if you build guitars.

Absolutely, I use it during the winter to measure the snow depth. it's the only thing I use it for.

i have a variety of measuring devices of various applications.
none of them a literal "yard stick" as such.
there are both taylors and caprenters measuring tapes in several lengths,
there is an ultrasonic distance meter, there are vernier calipers, there are scale rulers in several standard and non standard scales.
there's even one of those little counters with a wheel for measuring distances on physical maps.
but none of them actually the specific and literal item in question.
(all of them get used too, the very small scale rules the most often)
(i also no longer live where i did the previous time i posted in this thread,
other then no longer living in a house shared with others, nothing much has changed in my personal life. i just no longer know anyone in person as well since that house was sold and everyone including me had to move.)

    Nope. I use measuring tape.

  18. My dad used to spank my butt with a yardstick. I use them as lightsabers. I don't currently own one.

Spanky was naughty, but when his mother went to spank him, he was naughty again, and crapped his pants! :)

    Yes - it's a home-made ex-broom handle, with (x3) 12 " markings up it
