the people I work with are quite interesting, as well as the drama that happens while the food is being made... "Where the fuck are the frenchfries!?" "I dunno..." "I fucking quit!" "Argh!!!"

I'm a barista at Starbucks. Corporate, I know, but hey. Good pay, great benefits, and face it. Easy ass job. Besides, it pays the bills and keeps delicious organic food on the table. Oh, and its giving me a little insight into the business. My dream is to have my own indie cafe.

I make seasonal work around Europe. Last years mostly in Dk, picking strawberries and peas, apples and another fruits, in autumn cutting Christmastrees. It´s nice to work outdoors, nice to live in a tent too, nice to smoke at work too.

I have been working also in Greece, picking olives and grapes, etc. and in Italy, in Finland and in Iceland. More you travel, less you will settle down, but i like it that way.
I cant do more than 2-3 months one job, and after that i relax for another month or two. There is no point to get too stressed with any work.

    :)

hell yeah, that's some other sort of way to live!

I chose the third option, since it included 'etc.' I'm a fulltime dad, so it's not technically a job recognized by the 'man', but I've worked harder at it than any other job I can conceive. It would feel shitty to work as much as I do and at the end of the day feel like it wasn't worth it

    Hey all.

I currently run a surf shack at the weekends. It gets me by at the moment, but things are tight. I have worked in corporate finance, mental health nursing and simply selling wetsuits to beach bumbs like myself. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter what you do. You gotta eat, right? It's more the spirit with which you do things. It's in your heart, being a hippie that is. It's a lifestyle choice, yes, and many people choose to go it alone outside of the system. I just believe you can work, even for Big Brother, and still know where you are really at:)

    LOVE everyone xxxx

This thread is MASSIVELY uninteresting! It's all about ME,ME,ME. I almost deleted it from my subscriptions, but I figured I'd try one time to get some actual CONVERSATION going before I gave it up. So here is my attempt.

The optimum "job" would be one you could do under the table. No taxes taken out, no record at the IRS. Or one that pays in barter. As the money system crumbles and the wars continue ever on with OUR MONEY to fund them, we could do an awful lot more towards creating barter "clubs" or groups within our communities. Everyone has issues with the way the tax system and the financial system works so it's time to do something about it! You can't change it, so why not BYPASS it? Go underground. Get away from the accepted money system as much as humanly possible. There are ways. I have done that my whole life. I think I have had something like $20.00 taken from me for taxes since I was 18... And I've had a very profitable life and I ain't dead... The REAL job that EVERYONE should be doing is the one of taking care of the earth and the inhabitants anyhow. Everything else is secondary.

Unfortunately society doesn't think like that. I would like that though. Economy and a countries industry should never be a country's highest priority. But yeah, they feel like they have to..

Do you think she really cares? I only see being unemployed as a bad thing if you're living off society and over hard working people's back. Although I think the States aren't making it that easy with social security allowances as here.

"Unemployed" is a useless term. When the states publish their "unemployment" rates, they ONLY take into account those people who are currently receiving unemployment. So anyone who has used up their benefits, or anyone who works outside the system, or is on disability, etc. are not counted. In WV they are trying to tell us our unemployment rate is going down!!! I think they say we are at a bit over 4%. ACTUALLY, the truth is we in this county alone are at about 35% "unemployment", maybe more. Out of the 13 households on THIS road, all but 3 are either "unemployed", on disability or are retired.

Woops? I have NOT WORKED A "REAL" job since I was 18. Does that make me "unemployed"? Not at all. It makes me not having to be sucked dry by the IRS. It makes me not have to use many gallons of gas every day to commute to work. It gives me more time to live an environmentally AND mentally friendly life.

Who cares what "society" thinks??? Society SUCKS! Here's some food for thought. Most folks go out and get a "job" because it's the EASY WAY. You don't have to think about it or do anything at all but show up every day and follow orders. Then you get WHAT'S LEFT of your paycheck after taxes and social security, etc. is taken out. If you do some research, you'll find that the average family with 2 kids and both adults working a "job", living the typical lifestyle that SOCIETY dictates is "normal", they have to work from January to MAY just to pay their taxes... To hell with all that. You can choose to participate in that or not. Because there ARE viable options. In these contexts, "unemployment" is just so much hot air. Personally, I work every day and I don't have to leave the farm to do it. And I literally WOULD NOT HAVE TIME to run off to a "job" every day, nor would I be able to live as well, OR have as much money if I lived that way.

It's a bummer that society values people based on their employment status. Lotsa poor misguided souls measure themselves that way, as if what they do and how much they make defines who they are.

I love what I do, getting paid to tinker all day, it's more like a hobby than a job. It almost doesn't seem right getting paid to have this much fun, but I paid my dues with all those years of school, and the corporate BS I had to put up with in the process of gaining the experience I needed to get to where I could call the shots.

The down side is it's volatile, so I never know when I'll be without a job, but I'm used to it. I welcome the time off, time which is priceless in the scheme of things, like spending a few months at home with my daughter when she was a year old, taking her for hikes in the woods and showing her the beauty of nature, or going on back packing trips during the week and having the trail to myself. You just can't get that from a pay check.

If you live within your means and you don't need a lot of stuff, it's surprising how long you can go without a "real" job.

You can't buy freedom, it's a state of mind.
