When I was in London for a week this May I noticed that they had slot machines in this one pub that we walked past each day on the way to East Croydon station. I forget what the place was called, but it makes me curious if there's gambling in London like Vegas, or even if I just imagined it. Do they allow much gambling in England? To answer the question, no I don't gamble. I'm afraid I don't have enough money for it!
Slot machines are commonplace in many pubs in the UK, as well as arcades. Not that they generally pay out the extravagant amounts you might win in Vegas. We have licensed casinos in many places, and betting shops where you can back horses, dogs, football teams and many other things. Gambling is everywhere in Britain.
I only ever buy the occasional ticket - mainly when there's a roll-over on the Euro Millions lottery. Never won a thing.
I used to have a German math professor who was fairly eccentric. He used to say, in his thick German accent, that gambling was "the eeediot tax." And then he would do this weird breathy laugh. He was kinda right though.
I've been to Vegas once, but what I'm really looking forward to is the opening of the new 2 billion dollar Wynn Boston Harbor casino in May 2019 Hotwater
Wynn Casino is up to $2.4 billion as of Feb 2017. Anyone want to wager it will hit $3 billion? https://commonwealthmagazine.org/gambling/wynn-casino-pricetag-goes-up-300m/ For a moment there, Wynn looked like a new U.S. hospital.
Which one is a casino and which is a hospital? You can't tell, can you? Might be a good idea to combine fancy new casinos with fancy new hospitals. Patients can gamble while they are recovering. Bets can also be made on whether or not the patient will survive the operation.
I got full of myself for awhile and thought I could make a living at BlackJack. I had been pretty consistent in winning and placed 4th out of 600 entrants at a Harrahs tournament. Decided to go at that as a business. Kept spreadsheets etc of it all. After about 6 months of doing OK I decided to take larger wager positions. Then the cards stayed consistently brutal for about 6 months and it became a break even or overall loss position. That was the end of my believing that I personally had the stomach to do it with the big boys. Statistically we will lose. Been like that from day one and it works out well for the house.......always.
I never understood the appeal. Even if I had the extra money to waste on gambling, I could think of a million other things I'd rather spend the money on.
Yes, nothing serious but i play office pools, I play poker a couple times a year and once in a great while I’ll go to a casino
