I had derealization when my HPPD was at it's strongest, and thats when it became a negative thing. For a month or two I felt like the physical world was just an extremely complex illusion to keep my true self (mind, thoughts, soul?) entertained and not just be a bunch of thoughts, and that I had broken this illusion and now I wasn't fully engaged in it. Now I knew this wasn't REALLY true, and I had just overworked my brain.

14 months later and I'm almost at 100% again, although small visual distortions are still apparent. 3 trips in the last 9 months don't seem to have effected this distortions.

Mostly the 2c-e and 2c-i. Its funny because I know what portion of my HPPD is because of what drug. The high dose 2c-e was a good factor to most the the serious stuff. (≥35mg oral)

Tryps don't really feel like they cause any of the hppd. If I take a really high dose it seems like things are off a little for like 2-3 days. (mainly tracers out of the blue). But def most of it is from the 2c-e/i.

Sometimes colors stay around for longer periods..such as looking at a light then looking away. Also, sometimes I notice little..how should i put..static dots around me? lol. Though these don't really bother me at all or interfere with anything.

Though, sometimes my mind will just start having these crazy thoughts at random. I will start thinking about a lot of things at once, sometimes slight anxiety. It occasionally gets me depressed at times but fades right away. Other times i will just start having deep thoughts about things..which can be eye opening. Again..not necessarily a bad thing ha.

With the hole flashback thing, It's more like..with my mind then seeing things if you guys know what i mean haha :)

Holy shit cory. You sig pic is awesome!

But I get those static dots too. They are black when I look at the sky usually. Colored dots when I look at whiteish yellow/white. Kinda weird... I do remember one of the signs of schizophrenia is seeing dots in your vision... At least thats what a 10th grade psych class and book said...

and yeah, i find those dots to be quite "cool" sometimes. But oh boy, if your 10th grade psych book said that, we might be in trouble! haha ;)

You could constantly hallucinate, and it wouldn't necessarily be schizophrenia...for the record

    how does HPPD occur anyway?
scientists have had a hard time locating it in the brain. it's obviously not related to anxiety, since nobody is really that anxious on HPPD (except for maybe experiencing for the first time). I don't think it has anything to do with actual vision, either (in terms of having affected various physical elements of the eye-brain connection). is it mental, then? just asking peoples' opinions because HPPD fascinates me (and was actually the reason i chose not to take acid at one point).
but nevertheless, i want to know peoples' opinions (or maybe even real knowledge) as to HOW this mental phenomenon (im not going to call it an illness) occurs. perhaps the brain is shocked and has trouble recovering from the hallucinations, as sometimes happens when people develop derealization or depersonalization after their first joint ..?

shit always looks like I am slightly tripping, stuff kinda wavy, certain textures are more obvious. The more depreved of sleep I am the worse it is. Most of the time I think its fucking annoying.

it's all about your serotonin system. alter that and you have yourself hppd.

pretty much any mental state or situation can be linked pretty quickly to the serotonin system, though it's not this simple. hppd probably involves your entire brain, dopamine, GABA, and all other neurotransmitters. It's just that 5HT (serotonin) plays the central role in the mechanism of action in psychedelics, so its natural to assume that lingering effects from said psychedelics would imply long term changes in 5HT functioning.

HPPD can come WITH depression and anxiety, as it often does in people who have tripped way too much, but HPPD on its own does not imply mood changes afaik.

well, do you think people with these ailments already have had pre-existing conflicts with depression and anxiety?

I've always thought of post trip anxiety to be related more to understanding your mental state and becoming overwhelmed by it, or simply a PTSD like response.
