I used to , but then I needed these services and been turned away to many fucking time. Ill burn clothing, furniture before I donate it to Salvation Army, Veteran Services, Goodwill.
This is so senseless! What about giving it DIRECTLY to someone in need. The thing about these organizations is that yes they are helpful but NOT ABSOLUTELY NEEDED. You DO NOT need an intermediary to stand between you (the giver) and the needy person (receiver). You can give straight to the needy with your own hands. Why burn it!? I'm sorry but that really frustrates me. I've had a pretty damn good life. My mother always clothed and fed me. But there was a time when I was much younger that she was a single mother, with a theology degree that earned her squat! She put herself through school a second time and began really earning. There was a time when we were actually really poor and relied on generous people to help us live. So this really bothers me.
yeah, but maybe you dont know what Ive been going thru for the last 2months.. Certainly opened my eyes about who is in need and who isnt .. I know people that are in direct need. I wont give to no organization..
Well the last couple months maybe no. But you told me about your situation and I am very sorry for that. I know you're going through a really really tough time, but I know you are so much more than a disease! Please do not let it ruin your spirit of good will toward others. I think giving directly is great too. I donated money to the American Heart Association the other day because I think its a really good organization. BUT I don't typically donate money to organizations through store checkout lines the way they always ask, "would you like to donate to x" because I'm not sure all the proceeds go directly to them. I would prefer to donate directly to the organization. My old boss would donate 100k every quarter (he's ridiculously rich), to the American Cancer Society because he overcame cancer. And like 25k a couple times a year to the local YMCA. Good causes there.
I donate 15dollars to Operation Smile every year.. I give the best Halloween candy stuff out. 30lbs of chips and candy. / I could uses some those snacks right about now.. I donate my time to Citizens Against Litter.. Lots of time...
I donate for animal organizations. My dad donated his body to medical science, and we got his ashes back, which my brother and I scattered everywhere. My brother even went to Finland to put some of his ashes there. i digress, I know....but my point it...yes, my family donates and has donated. I also put nice things in the Goodwill boxes around here all of the time.
occasionally i will pick up litter when i see it and throw it away. more-so if i'm walking in a park or in the woods, it bothers me SLIGHTLY less to see litter on city streets. yesterday i went for a hike in the park, and i came across some valentine's day rubbish - a bunch of popped balloons and string, which i'm sure could be pretty dangerous to an unknowing animal. so i looked at it with disgust...thought or mumbled something about the jackasses that left it there. and it took me a second to realize "ya know....instead of just getting pissed about it, i could do something about it." so i balled it up in my coat pocket, continued my hike for another 30 or 40 minutes, and threw that shit out when i got home. probably the same people had written stuff all over the park bench where they left the balloons. if i had a pen i would have wrote "litter again AND DIE!" not to sound SO proud of myself. i didn't do anything that great. i just think more people could do that...instead of just saying "fuckin people!" and shaking their heads when they see litter. sometimes those same people look at me funny if i pick the litter up and start carrying it with me. but i mean, it depends on what it is...i saw some baggies of what i'm pretty sure was dog shit. i'm not pickin that up!
I also donate personally to people. My pest tech guy struggles with a wife and 3 boys and a wife who just had a baby girl.....They are happy for anything that helps them. I asked him one day if he would like baby clothes and girl clothes...and he said YES....so I gave him bahgs and bags of things....new children's clothes and hundreds of dollars worth...I bought all that when I was redressing the dolls here, and he told me no one ever helped them before and they were very grateful, and his wife sent me a thank you card, so personally, this is one example.
I donate blood to the Red Cross, since my blood type is in high demand. I usually do a double-red donation, so I can help more people.
Our team participates in community events at least twice a month. Anything from planting trees to walking dogs at the humane society. I won't give money to organizations, and I only donate my time to my personal community. Also, a portion of our bout proceeds are donated to local charities.
no, i have a hard enough time getting by on what i make, paying all the bills. ma old lady, kids get any thing left.
if i had tons of disposable income, i'd do more to support lefty causes, but instead, i have a ton of things i need and wish to do. tools and materials to make things with, that i believe, what i try to illustrate with them, may do more for the causes i wish to support, at least that's my intention ultimately with them, then the tiny amount of chump change i would otherwise be able to throw at them. i do want to get my phone through creedo, when the i do get around to getting one though. that's not a donation as such, but it may help my side of the political spectrum, which i believe to be the side of honesty. and creating a world with broader opportunity, for the introverted as well as the extroverted, would do more to help everyone, then the traditional charities and what people traditionally assume about them, who have never been in need of being on their receiving end.
I don't donate as much as I support stores that rely on donations for product... ReStore, Goodwill, etc. Not the same thing but best I can do at the moment.
