Ive noticed something strange about myself. I enjoy watching, reading about, and seeing very morbid things. Twisted things. The more morbid it is, the more entertaining it is. I dont shed a tear either at movies where something really really sad is going on. I generally am most entertained by things that are extremely twisted, morbid, and violent all mixed into one. Movies like human centipede for example are some of my favorites, and the texas chainsaw massacre, blue velvet, ive yet to see hostel... I also like Ralph bakshi cartoons like fritz the cat, heavy traffic, hey good lookin, and coonskin. Some of this media I enjoy has a touch of comedy, some isnt made to be funny at all but does end up in making me have a good laugh.
I watched this movie once with michael douglas called "falling down". Its about life in LA i think... And he goes mad and lashes out at society. One of my favorite parts was when he is talking with a neo nazi guy... It starts off with the neo nazi wanting to be friends because he thinks the character douglas plays is a hate criminal. It gets ugly though, they get in a bit of a fight, the neo nazi pins down douglas, cuffs him and tells him hes going to call the cops. The neo nazi is all "yea your going to jail now you little fuck. you afraid huh? afraid your gonna get fucked up the ass by some faggot!'. The music played in the background and the whole mood that is being set in the scene is so negative. Its meant to have you at the edge of your seat, biting your nails and thinking "this is terrible and morbid".... But I laugh.
I also laughed a lot at the "to catch a predator" series, though I think most people did. The fact that people's whole reputation was being destroyed and the fact that they are now being disowned by society for the rest of their lives just made me feel tingly inside. At the same time a bit of shock and awe, like "oh my god, just imagine what its like, what they are feeling right now? Its got to suck balls." I remember watching a very long uncut episode with a young 19 year old getting caught in it. He sits and crys for a long long long time, chris hansen is pretty much sitting their watching him silently for long spells, and the camera crew is all sitting there filming. The people "busting" him have a look of sympathy kinda(because he is so young, first semester at college majoring in engineering he talks about all this), but at the same time theres a bit of a "justice has been served" feeling in the moment as well. Once in awhile hansen would say something like "mmmk, come on now go out and get some fresh air" and would do it over and over again cuz the kid wouldnt leave and it sounded like hansen was holding back tears. I just sat back and was watching every minute on you-tube with a friend and after a bit my friend was like "omg are you going to watch the whole fucking thing man? you are fucked up shut it off and lets do something else!" So I did. But... I wanted to finish the video.
Does this make me a phsycopath?? Does anyone else think there just like me and are all into morbid stuff?
I have never hurt anyone or anything(not physically anyway, we all break hearts at some point in our lives). Im generally a "tender little guy". As a kid I always liked to pet the kitty, and the little baby chickens, and baby birds. I was gentle with small animals...maybe I would tease them once in awhile. I did squash quite a few bugs though.. Ive taken care of the elderly before, gave showers, baths, brushed teeth, helped them walk, put em to bed, push their wheelchairs. They would describe me as one of the gentler caretakers. Female clients were more comfortable with me than they were with the female caretakers!
I guess whatever you think and do in your private life is never a problem so long as no one ever really gets hurt right??

Hello. I like scary movies, books.....well thought out things....not just blood and gore, though,. Psychological horror is more terrifying to me. The other stuff howdy doody....

I do like watching the reall crime show things, as then I don't feel so badly about myself, as I have a tendency to think I am the worst person in the world sometimes, for nothing, really.....but when I watch those shows, I think I am not so bad, afterall....

but I like all kinds of things...humor, space alien shit, science fiction, other moves, Lucille Ball used to be my favorite and on and on.....

I think no matter what you like or like to watch or fantasize about......but do not act on any of it....that is ok....only normal.....but if anyone acts on anything that will really hurt someone, then I think they better go get help before actually carrying anything like that out.

Stephen King is a wonderful, kind human being in person....but a writer with a very vivid imagination that has earned him millions.

I don't really like morbid things. I have a lot of anxiety over bad things happening to people I love so I stay away from fact or fiction that will just put more ideas in my head. I guess my own mind is morbid enough.

You mentioned Falling Down, I do love that movie. Sometimes I feel like doing that. I think his character is a hero for anyone who has ever been beaten down by the minutiae and bullshit of every day life.

My mind is pretty peaceful, but I also have a very vivid imagination....of course, I don't really want to see anything bad happening to anyone...

There is catharsis to be gained in what Stephen King calls this “rehearsal for our own death.” Allowing ourselves to believe in something frightening gives us an opportunity to drag our fears out of the closet, to examine them and, perhaps, to come to terms with them.

i'm too tired to read a novel, so i'm just responding to the title and first paragraph or two of the OP.

i'm not a fan of gore, but other than that, yes, morbidity can be quite fun.

But heres the thing thats crazy about me...
I laugh at things that often im not sure were intended to be funny in the first place.
Like the scene from human centipede 2 where a pregnant woman is running from the guy who is trying to sew her up into a centipede. Her water breaks, she runs into a car and has the baby, but steps on it and crushes it under the accelerator to get away from the guy chasing her.
Part of the reason I laugh at this scene is the thought of everyone going "Oh my GOD!!! That should be edited out! They should go to jail for even making a fictional scene like that!" Any time someone breaks all the rules on what your not supposed to do on television/movies it really tickles my funny bone.
Thats why toons made by John K. and Ralph bakshi were so entertaining for me.
I guess thats why anime was always so entertaining for me. I remember as a child I saw one of my first anime shows, I freaked out because I saw people getting brutally maimed. I was also thinking "whoa these cartoons are swearing!". I had it in my mind that cartoons cant be killed, cannot swear, and were all supposed to be friendly and kind. So when I saw this it was as if the laws of physics were being broken.
Then at one point the main character basically gets brutally murdered and eaten alive in front of his girlfriend, and she gets kidnapped. I felt physically sick. But nowadays im just like "meh whatever". No these memories dont give me nightmares or anything. It was actually more thrilling for me than anything.

I have a dark sense of humor. I'm really not into watching most horror movies, but I like watching or reading things that are more suspenseful and maybe dark...maybe something slightly creepy, but nothing too dramatic, too gory or too disturbing...like people crawling around with disjointed figures...I don't like that.

I thought the human centipede 2 was supposed to have funny parts. I remember clearly laughing after the time he knocked everyone out with one hit of his hammer or tire iron.

I like to see things that you wouldnt normaly see. So sci-fi is my favorite. And torture movies like strangeland are great.
I would never want to see anyone in real pain though. Those shows like "worlds dumbest partiers" i love watching them but when i see a clip where someone really gets fucked up...i have to fast forward through that shit because i know they are really in pain.

Im actually kinda a wuss sometimes.
I fast forwarded parts on human centipede two where hes severing ligaments/tendons.
But I laughed my ass off when he took a hammer and knocked all the teeth out of his neighbor that bullied him all the time. The gurgling on his own blood was hilarious on top of the fact that he was getting sweet revenge on the dude.

hot water, I agree with you with what you said. It is something to focus fears, etc....too, sometimes....

Speaking of horror films....this is the scariest one I ever saw with blood and gore....

I also love a good ghost movie, but there are not that many really haunting ones....and none I can think of at the moment.
This Wolf Creek is horrific.....awful....scary AS SHIT....

Well I spend time on threads the Monkey does so Yes!

No, not really but my mom is into it, anything scary she will watch or read.
If I watch something on TV and a woman screams blood curdling screams I can't watch, torture scenes and brutal murder scenes make me have nightmares.

nope. not for their own sake. but sometimes there are things intended to be, that i see other things in them.

at any rate, creating and exploring, are far more gratifying then any sort of entertainment created by someone else.
