Last time I was in Canada, was 1970 and I went from V. Island to Montreal. Had a great time and loved the summer trip. NOW--do I need a passport to cross the border into Canada, or just ID and money? Thanks---------Joel
I didn't need when driving into mexico or back into the US.. you should be fine going to canada with just a drivers license. But dont try and smuggle people in through your trunk ;p
As of 2009, everyone crossing the border from the us into canada by land or sea is required to have either a passport or a WHTI compliant document. You could get a passport card instead of a passport. In washington and new york state you can get an enhanced driver's license.
Every border state should offer EDL's but they don't. Vermont does but New Hampshire and Maine do not Hotwater
better check more than passport requirements...we're pretty strict about criminal records http://www.ask.com/wiki/American_entry_into_Canada_by_land?lang=en
I hear Canada has a boring kinda music scene because a lot of bands aren't allowed in from probation members.
last time i was in canada was 2003. they didn't check anything; i probably could have brought a small nuclear weapon with me if i had wanted to. of course, getting back into the US was a bitch. i think i was pretty close to just becoming a lifelong canadian resident. last i heard, you need a passport now.
I went to see my cousin in Michigan and we were going to go to canada. On their DL they have a option not to need a passport. The guy told me tuff shit. This was in 2011. Maybe I got an asshole or just the shit hole state itself. To avoid any problems and enjoy you're trip, I'd look into getting one.
i cannot cross without a passport or enhanced drivers license and since im too cheap to pay for either (plus enhanced driver licence are not available here ..only in border cities) so now i keep my canadian money in canada...no more cross border shopping since 9/11
