Did you know that your "Daddy's" autograph is worth more than $1000 to certain collectors? Dude, you could be making a fortune! And then you could even give part of the money you make to homeless shelters and everything. And that way no one can ever say that you're just a heartless maniac again. So go for it, dude! LMFAO. Peace, ~PD
(sigh) I guess it's true what we say in the carnival "We're providing a service--these suckers WANT to be fooled". And if somebody thinks that working with the homeless for 5 years means he knows more about what's up than somebody whose BEEN homeless for over a decade, I'm not going to waste my time trying to wake him up.
people like that asshole make me feel ashamed to be a human being. Seeing a homeless person makes me feel sad especially if i have nothing to give them whether it be some money, food, or even the shirt on my back. I was homeless for a while and i know what its like to scrounge for money and find some place to sleep for the night. so when i see a homeless, or stranded person i will help them out as best as i can. What makes me sick is seeing rich or middle class assholes who just ignore the needy or yell at them that makes me sick. If middle class/rich people can afford a new mercedes benz dont you think they could afford some goddam manners????
*bigger sigh* Actually, I think it is way tacky to debate who has been homeless the longest. True, I was only homeless myself for 1 year, but it was in Chicago, and that's one bad ass city to try and survive on the streets in. Sorry you are throwing such a hissy fit cuz I called you on your shameless ignorance. Actually, since you decided to double up on all the attitude in your second rather shallow and lame ass post, I won't worry about sparing your precious feelings this time. Because you HAVE been homeless, you should totally be ashamed of yourself for judging mentally ill folks like you do. You obviously have a problem. Big time. Get a grip. In fact, I'm sure that you and the rude dude that was coming down so hard on that homeless guy today would probably get along with each other. 2 peas in a pod, you know? Anything to make you feel superior, huh? And the pitiful fact that you think you are better than many of the homeless cuz you work in a freakin' carnival?! WTF? Give me a break. You are no better than any homeless person I have ever known. And I have known hundreds. Except there is one big difference. Most homeless folks have more brains and compassion in their little finger than you seem to have in your entire body. So that's just my two cents. Thanks for bringing such a huge smile to my face. LMFAO. And hope your holiday is an especially cheerful one. Peace, ~PD
I totally like what you said. And I appreciate your intelligence and compassion much. But it looks like people like that asshole I saw today are all too common (did you get a load of the holier than thou carny's comments on here? LOL.). So you wanna talk about getting a clue? Actually, people like THAT make me sick. LOL. I mean, there's just no excuse for that kind of shameless ignorance. Anyway, that last part of your comment is the best statement anybody has said about this sad situation so far: "If middle class/rich people can afford a new Mercedez, don't you think they could afford some goddamn manners?" That is some very wise and compassionate words there. And sadly, not heard all that frequently when it comes to truly understanding the homeless. Instead of using them as a convenient whipping post or something. Thanks for your insightful comment! Peace, ~PD
\ Hey dude, this is a democracy, huh? Or rumor has it? LOL. So if somebody actually has a little compassion for folks that you consider subhuman or whatever? And they wanna share their opinion on my thread. Then I say let them. Cuz not everybody is gonna be as totally toxic about this issue as you might wish them to be. So show a little heart. Cuz it is that time of year. And beware of angry homeless folks pushing their carts in the streets! LOL. Peace, ~PD
Man you STILL don't get it. Ok, now you're going to tell me you know more about the carnival than I do. Whatever, you're fucking hopeless.
CHILDREN!! CHILDREN!! Settle down now or you'll be sent to your rooms and have your keyboards taken away.
Sorry it took so long for me to comment further on this one. But your thoughts are so perceptive here, that I wanted to wait till things had settled down a bit so I could give your comment all the attention it really does deserve. The simple fact is that many folks are just one paycheck away from being homeless. And that's why I say that nobody really is better than anybody else. We all deserve to have a safe place to call our own. I have met a few homeless people that choose to live that way. And there's nothing wrong with that at all! I think it is totally cool that somebody has enough guts to give the so-called American dream a big kiss off. I mean, if a person wants to be totally independent, and not have to answer to a boss, landlord, credit card company, etc., I'm not gonna judge you. Cuz you have every right to that choice. And you sound like a very sane and responsible person to me. I just would like to see a little bit more compassion out there. Cuz that's the key to finding the right solution to this problem. Calling the homeless names, and abusing them for being so "lazy" is not gonna help at all. I've already said that all anybody has to do to support the homeless is buy a newspaper the next time you see a homeless vendor selling them. And he will have on a badge if he's legit. So there's not much chance of getting scammed at all. But it just seems like it's a whole lot easier to judge them than it is to help them. Like the idiot on my sidewalk today. Just think. If he had walked down to the bookstore on the other corner, he could have made a big difference in somebody's life for just a buck. There's always somebody homeless selling papers there. But he prefered to act out big time. Cuz it made him feel better about himself. And nothing of value was truly accomplished. Thanks again for all your perceptive words! And the best of luck to you during your journey. Peace, ~PD
Even though I grew up in the city where the Bowery exists, I never came across more homeless people than I did in San Francisco. The city is so compact, that the number of homeless seem to be greater because of the amount of living space. Homelessness is often a multi-pronged condition; not simply a matter of mental illness, but add to that the fact that people don't know how to manage money, take care of their personal hygiene, prepare meals or interact with others. There are also people who --unlike the agoraphobic-- don't like to be fenced in. I personally have never been a big fan of sleeping under the stars. As a homeowner, however, I am not too terribly fond of the homeless. I don't like the idea of my trash being rifled through for recyclables nor do I care for my lawn being used as a public toilet. The homeless can be odorous, dangerous and potential spreaders of airbourne illness. They don't make me sick. They make me sad.
Why do you still put your recyclables where we have to root around for them? Can't you just put them in a seperate box and save you and us the hassle? Hospitals are a health hazard, you work with sick people and you worry about homeless people transmitting disease. What kind of airborne disease are you worried about? Black plague? Your complaint isn't grounded in reality, unless you, as a medical professional can name one case. People who live in houses and wear too much cologne and eat processed junk food smell like shit to me, live and let live though.
I started out homeless because I didn't have a choice. Years later, when I went home and saw the kind of life my old friends wound up with after a decade of playing by the numbers and living a "normal life"--divorce, alcoholism, health problems, $$$ problems, deprssion, drug addiction, sucide--I was pretty happy with the path I'd chosen. ^^^that kind of life looks crazy to me.
