Now, it's alright to judge others, for that is how you can spot their weaknesses and hopefully help them resolve them; but know that the measure by which you judge is the measure by which God will judge you, so idle judgements (cheap shots like "i'm so sorry you're going to hell) are best not made. Especially when you are doing the same thing the attacker is doing, you say "i still love you" (supposedly turning the other cheek) but still add "but sorry, you're going to hell." Are you sure you have removed the beam from your eye, that you can see the dust in your opponent's? Are you sure? You may have faith, but is your spirit pure? Are you sure?

Besides, only God knows who is saved and who is damned. I believe Jesus said that as well. Don't they call it spiritual arrogance to claim to possess such wisdom that you can declare "you're going to hell". Isn't spiritual arrogance specifically one of the things Jesus preached against? (the Pharisees?) You guys call yourselves Christians?

(and on the thread topic, I doubt using marijuana would be something despised by god, so long as it is not misused/abused. There is much on earth to take pleasure in (which can also be abused), i doubt we are to live boring drab lives, but as with all things, moderation is the best way).

Either way, how can herb be considered bad by most Christians? If I am not mistaken, there are no references to it in the Bible that condemn it, and the Bible obviously doesn't have anything against intoxicating substances because, I mean, Jesus turned water into wine! That right there is Jesus facilitating the consumption of alcohol! Herb has been shown to be valuable in the fight against cancer, multiple sclerosis, AIDS, glaucoma, and a variety of other illnesses, not to mention, it opens your mind to new possibilities, and keeps you from putting yourself 6 feet under! It sounds more like herb should be considered a miracle plant than devil's weed.

Besides, Devil's Weed (aka Jimsonweed) is already taken by something else.

There are a lot of people who call themselves Christians, (and I have found, that often, the louder they do it, the worse they are) who really don't practice what they preach. But condemning someone just BECAUSE they may be Christian is silly.

 

I understand what you're getting at, but we were definitely told not to touch the Tree of Knowledge, G-d's instructions on that were crystal clear. I don't believe in literal Genesis translation either, but the point is that there could be only one thing that we are specifically told not to do, and we'd do it anyway.

You are right, it just could mean that. But it could also not... The point is that we just don't know. However, in support of the idea of total abstinence, those that have a predisposition for abuse are better off not partaking at all. If you never indulge, then you'll never have a problem with it.

In other words, complete abstinence is a precaution some take to avoid sin, but I don't think it's a requirement for salvation. Feel free to disagree, tho.
