orison You really need to red the posts in a thread to repeat - The British military do not run the UK’s civil prisons. And as I’ve explained to you more than once I’m not saying we haven’t got problems in the UK and I bring them up with people here but this is mainly a forum populated by Americans where US issues are mainly discussed and as pointed out by me and others [like Meagain] many Americans don’t seem to want to talk about issues in other counties if it hasn’t got a US angle.
Report from 2005?? Nothing like staying current. But define torture. It is getting ripped by the CIA, by the head of the program, many people in Congress.
So I provide you with clear examples of unfair moderation and you just poo-poo it aside.........nice. and a most of the posts in question have been deleted, so....... You as a moderator would have more ready access to that information than do I. I have no record of posts that were deleted nor do I have any record of banning or infractions, especially since the site change over, but you already know that and I suspect that is why you are asking me to provide what I essentially have no access to. Try again.
Gas If you want to talk to other moderators do so - in relation to me again i ask for the evidence, and you seem unable to produce any - in what thread did i supposedly 'silence' you?
Vance Wow and you know what I also mention the school of the Americas that was even further back – now why do you think I did that - you know give examples form differing times?
I have no desire to discuss this with others. You asked for examples of unfair moderation, which I provided, now you add the caveat that "it wasn't me". As I already stated, you have better access to past records than I do. It is hard to go through all the threads you have started, and I fear that if I continue on this course you will silence me again stating I am posting "off topic".
We shouldn't be talking about moderation in this thread for various reasons. Let's get back to the question; Do Americans (U.S. citizens I presume) accept torture? Legally the U.S. government can not torture anyone so those in the government who wish to use torture just redefine the word.
The trouble with questions like this is that it's too general. It's clear that some Americans accept torture whilst others don't, and that's equally true of the British.
TORTURE ?? (Fingers in ears--eyes squeezed tightly shut--jumping up and down---LALALAALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALA-CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Buy More. Buy More now.
It could very well represent the degree a society is offended by errant or uncivilized behavior. It is my take being born in the united states that I needn't be concerned about being a civilian when I am a citizen. As a citizen I should be guaranteed a degree of civility and unrestrained enforcement abrogates that guaranty.
So you are arguing that even if people who may only be inside for low level drug offences and those with mental health issues are brutal mistreated that is ok because their errant behavior is such a big threat to civilization? Why has the US the largest prison population in the world? Why are US prisons often cited as some of the most brutal in the developed world by such bodies as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International?
egg Sure you read them? Ok if I have to explain - Post 1 Given the recent report on CIA torture has highlighted the subject once more could it be said that many Americans accept torture, seeing that this keeps happening? I mean we had the US training for torturers at the School of the Americas [1945-2000] the ongoing brutality of US prisons that many equate to torture and the survey back in 2005 that suggested that nearly half of American [43%] would condone the torture of suspected terrorist. Are Americans shocked by such revelations and want to stop torture from happening or do many just shrug their shoulders? Post 11 Every one of your points could as easily be applied to British military Post 12 The British military do not run the UK’s civil prisons. * Do you see - not every point I made could be easily be applied to British military because it doesn’t run the UK’s civil prisons Now have you got a point or what? PS: is the CIA part of the US military, - If not, really only the School of the Americas could be said to involve the US military.
Most americans seem to accept torture when it involves their enemies. Not medieval torture methods perhaps, but 'civilized' methods of course...
this thread does come off as a bit of a baiting thread when you answered your own question in the op. You said - 43% of Americans approve of torture in a 2005 study. granted, the political climate is a bit different than 2005 but still, there is your answer.
