Do A Lot Of Non Whites Think Whites Shouldnt Have Dreadlocks?

Where I live its fairly common to see white people with dreadlocks but i just came accross this video and was wondering if this is common or if the girl in this video is just a dumbass? To me she just seems like a fucken idiot. What do you expect from SFSU though..

I tend to get alot of questions as to why i have dreads. Mainly from Africians or Jamaicans. The problem i see here is she literally must not have any clue that dreads date back to ancient greece. The amount of times i'v tried to explain this to them boogles me its usally met with " Oh well this is our culture'. I'm not even sure why people bother themselves so much on how people look lol. Also i can point out about five things that she benefits from that white people had help in doing.

The girl in the video acted like this because she like a lot of Black people think they have "ALL" White people intimidated. That is a fatal mistake, because in reality Black people have NO allies, and this is not due to skin color it is because so many of them come across as sociopathic, violent and just plain nasty. Everyone knows this is true but are afraid to say it.

If Black folks really knew the animosity & hatred that other races have for them they would look for a hole to hide in. They need to do something to fix the rampant psychological problems in their communities. Have no doubt that one day society will take draconian measures to eliminate these dangerous predators from our midst.

Of people that I know in the UK that have dreads and are white, the only people that they seem to have gotten grief over their hair from are other whites, which is very odd. To be fair, these are all women and the objections tend to be more "you look like a fucking wierdo"-based than based around cultural appropriation. maybe there's a difference because of gender?

 

That is a campus employee? very disturbing....and she should be fired. It is obvious she is just looking to antagonize someone and start a fight.
What she says and does gets my negative feelings about her...and not the color of her skin.
As far as the thread title, i don't care what anyone does with their own hair or bodies or clothing or no clothing, etc.

 

I've heard a ton about "cultural appropriation" lately. The debates that ensue typically revolve around dreadlocks on white people, or non-Indians wearing a bindi.

People from a dominant race, say, whites in America, adopt a practice from some "oppressed" culture, say black people in the instance of dread locks. While black people aren't taken seriously for having dreads, might struggle to find a job, or be automatically stuck into some sort of stereotype, White people get dreads and are considered "hippies" or "different" for adopting the same hairstyle. Those people benefit from adopting an aspect of another culture, strictly because they are a member of a privileged group.

On top of that, people who adopt foreign cultural practices can't relate to the important aspects of the thing they are appropriating, reducing it to a fashion statement, when it is, perhaps, something sacred to the people who it is native to.

I understand the concept, but think we could easily carried away. If everyone kept their traditions to themselves, and kept to their own race, you'd probably end up breeding strict and dangerous Nationalism.

I think the idea is that they are cast under positive or neutral stereotypes. Alternatively, considered fashionable or edgy.

When I saw this earlier today, I thought to myself "Hmm, how would I have handled this 5 years ago?".

5 years of dreadlocks and only a handful of negative comments in my experience (it's been quite a while since I cut them)... Never once from a black person. In fact, they were the most supportive and interested crowd (the girls in particular).
