Now might be the only point in my life I can have them. I'm going to the University of Miami right now for Music Business, then hopefully law school and then I'll have some kind of legal career within the music business, like at a record label or publishing company or something.

Well what would stop you getting them when you go to Uni and are totally independant? If the answer to that is you can't/won't have them when you go to Uni, then I don't think theres going to be much point in them, how long you at College for, they're gonna take 12 months to start to mature and settle down properly

You think I could have dreads as a lawyer? Right now my plan for them is to keep them for the 5 more years I'll be in school (3 more undergrad, 2 law school) and then prob cut them once I start looking for work. Idk though, maybe in the music biz they won't really care.

Just want to share the continuation of my parents' reactions, since I thought they were pretty funny this time:

Mom: So what's your plan for undoing them? You have to get a job.

Dad: Back when I was in school, kids got their asses kicked for trying to look black. Black people don't look kindly on white lookalikes.

    LOL

Times like these make me heart my parents and already having a job, deal with your problems as they come if you want to keep em that bad

Well, my dreadlets have calmed down a bit now, btw. Only thing that kinda sucks is the ends are all a lot looser and more undone, but closer to the roots it's staying, so they just need time.

How long do you think before they look a bit more presentable? like not fully mature dreads, but at least not just a mess like now.

I guess I meant more like how long it would be for, instead of people's reactions being "Dude, wtf is with your hair", it looking half decent.

Btw that girl I mentioned earlier who didn't like them saw them in person today (she was the first one outside my family), and her reaction was to crack up laughing. Which was actually fucking annoying, but I can deal with it because I like them and I know they'll look good in the future.

none of us can really answer that question :/ It all depends on what your hair does, if you do any maintenance, how well you t&r to begin with.

my new set pics begin on..pg 6 I believe

They were t&r as well and looked decent or 'presentable' i guess pretty much right away. But I had a lot of hair to begin with.

You're just going to have to deal with the ignorant people and not let'em bring you down on your journey:cheers2:

lol. it does look like pat does a good job though

but how do you think they look right now? presentable, or total shit? pretty much just want to know whether i look ridiculous right now or not.

Edit: also, my dad started talking to me about them, and it was really obvious that he couldn't wrap his head around how hair can be clean even if you can't comb it. like the two were completely associated with one another in his mind.

I think they're good considering they're age. They've gotten messier. Presentable.. yea I guess, but I'm sure there are many people who would disagree and much prefer I had brush-able hair again.

Your hair isn't suppose to look good right away. Srsly my first set, for a good couple weeks were really fluffy and stood straight up. I had to wear a headband to keep them down. They settled a bit after my first wash though.

I can understand how your parents& others are making this stressful for you but if it's something you really want you have to just block that negativity (out as hard as it may be)

People tend to associate dreads with being dirty, it's just the way it is. I suggest you find some facts about washing, maintenance(if it's something your interested in), just the over all process etc and talk to your dad about it if you can. Maybe round up some pictures of other people from their first few days and then find pictures of their hair after it has matured to give him an idea? He might understand a little more with some visuals.

Anyways I'll stop babbling.. but you have a long way to go, you can't be stressn' like this!!

I think I do. Me pre dreads -> me with dreads = me happier. That's really all that matters.

My parents have always been really strict and controlling, so I'm used to having to deal with that. I do shit that I want to all the time anyway. It just requires a little more effort.
