and regarding it not being in the plants benefit of humans chopping it down or whatever, the plant has thrived pretty damn well since humans have tinkered with it.
it still must be eaten in a certain way (made into butter or cooked). What he's saying is that it's not the most nature-accessible drug. the leaves that make cocaine are. all you do is pick em and chew em to get high.
not true in the least bit. in fact, just the opposite is true. these plants produce these chemicals to attract humans. herb started as an anemic ditch weed. with human intervention its turned into a huge beautiful plant with buds of the utmost potency. why is fruit sweet? why are flowers beautiful? same reason. if they can attract humans, they can assure their success.
Uhh, no. Flowers attract bees among others to pollinate them, insects and flowers get a mutually beneficial relationship out of it. What size the buds are don't matter, all kinds of plants can grow to ridiculous sizes when you super saturate them with energy from light and nutrients. Most botanists would agree, when a plant has a chemical that alters perception, it's generally a defense mechanism. This again is trying to justify your drug use. Most importantly, marijuana doesn't make these chemicals to attract humans, the plant has existed long before humans were around to smoke it.
It's a drug. It has recreational and mind-altering uses. It can be both a drug and herb. Everybody wins.
Sure. I've already conceded it's a drug. But first it's an herb and I keep coming back to that to respond each time it's referred to as a poison. It's not a poison. It's an herb.
im not trying to justify anything. i casually quit smoking weed over six months ago and dont plan on picking it up again anytime soon. i actually learned about this from a documentary about the relationship between humans and plants over time from the plants perspective. weed, potatoes, tulips, apples, and several more are all plants that have flourished because humans are attracted to them. ps. if marijuana developed THC and cannabinoids as a defense mechanism, it has certainly failed miserably at that.
No it's succeeded at that, we can laugh about animals that have a certain taste for mind altering substances but the fact remains most animals don't like taking in drugs, our hunter gatherer ancestors too would not be a fan of ingesting something that lowered their senses. Recreational drug taking is something that could only happen because of society and humans having enough down time to actually be able to dull their senses. It doesn't really matter if a plant thrives because of humans, one, weed is a weed, it will grow near anywhere, like a lot of things. Corn, cows, pigs, dogs, cats, tomatoes, ect have all thrived because of humans too. That's the great thing about humans, we manipulate our environment to better suit our desires. Also, calling weed a herb is mad stupid and is probably the reason why it's still illegal because you refuse to call it a drug. Marijuana is a drug, nothing more, nothing less, if you're using it purely for medicinal reasons or seasoning uses, which no one here is, then maybe it's a herb. This is not 500 A.D. and you're not a religious shaman, no one here is using weed as a herb.
The Church of the Universe requires the use of the sacramental herb. Look up marijuana and you will find that it is indeed an herb. So you're the one who's mad stupid. Maybe you should try actually obtaining some actual knowledge rather than just puking out ignorance and insults in so many threads.
Herb- A herb is a plant that is valued for flavor, scent, or other qualities. Herbs are used in cooking, as medicines, and for spiritual purposes. Sounds like weed to me. And it's a drug cause people take it to get high. This is such a stupid ass argument.
Lol, mind altering chemicals found inside plants or those that animals produce are absolutely defense mechanisms. It's the same thing with mushrooms and mescaline.
give this three part documentary a watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGpVSm-al54"]YouTube- Weird Nature e6of6 Peculiar Potions Part 1/3
I think the verdict is still out on this statement. Psychedelic mushrooms are consumed by animals as a matter of course. It doesn't make a lot of sense to have a defense mechanism that only works after it is consumed. Spines or overtly irritating chemicals are the way to go as far as defense.
There are many defense mechanisms that work not to save the individual, but to save the species. If something eats a few mushrooms that contain psilocybin and trips the **** out, becoming fearful, disoriented, and confused, it's safe to say that it probably won't be returning to eat those same mushrooms again. It's learned behavior, and many defense mechanisms count on this to lay protection over anything that simply looks like it.
This is actually the sad thing about humanity. If we took from the environment according to our needs as opposed to our desires, every thing would be healthier.
The creatures that commonly consume psychedelic mushrooms are insects and mollusks, they are not prone to psychological fear and confusion. Further more, the existence of that chemical in the mushroom makes you want to eat more of them not less.
