Microsoft just discovered the next big evolution in displays (msn.com)

Our flat screen displays still struggle to reproduce the picture quality of something like an old Sony Trinatron CRT, but Microsoft is rapidly staking out their own territory. Due to cheaper monitors still proliferating, Microsoft is getting an early start on things like the mini dot displays about to flood the market. Being able to tweak how dim anywhere on the display looks, in ambient lighting, means a high definition picture can look like a window, if the screen is bright enough.

For comparison, 300 nits is an average laptop brightness, over a thousand is considered damn good, and around 3,000 nits you approach the levels of daylight. However, the ability to change how dim any spot on the screen is, means you can simulate 3d virtual reality better and horror video games and first person shooters will never be the same again. Something like an OLED display provide the darkest darks, but this technology will close the gap significantly, empowering 50 shades of gray. TVs will eventually have to do something similar. Using AI to tweak the picture, porn will never be the same again.

Religion and porn are the two most popular things online, suggesting the US will create a wildly popular religion of porn. Have sex, and be Born Again!
