Adding a methyl group to cathinone results in the more potent methcathinone. Same with amphetamine. But iff you look at methamphetamine vs. the dimethylated version, dimethylamphetamine...adding a second methyl group to the nitrogen drastically lowers the potency. I would expect the same with dimethylone, lower in potency and subjective effects compared to methylone proper. It probably (but this is only speculation on my part) also further changes the binding selectivity...most likely even further away from the ratio we would want in an entactogen/empathogen.
Methylone will never be replaced. nor will mephedrone. They can try but it just won't happen. All these chemists are trying to do is get around laws. methyl ethylone was alright. not very potent though.
Every chemical is unique, there will never be a replacement for any of them. If you want the effects of a certain chemical, you are going to have to take that chemical. The best you can ever hope for is the closest approximation possible.
