Here's a tip: You're spending way too much $$ on grapes.

To my palate, there are a lot better tasting things to drink besides wine that are a lot cheaper.

what... i loved working for tips.
tipping jobs are where the money is at!!... some may not tip, but its pretty rare. ive had more people over tip, then not tip at all.

fuck alcohol. 300 dollars for one night of a couple people getting drunk? Why not pick up a couple ounces and have weed forever? Doesn't make sense to blow money like that.

This is a weed forum. Just lettin' ya know.

dude, if you do that for ages it will get lame, u cant always live your life being cheap, whats the point of living if you cant enjoy some of the good stuff + weed smoking all the time gets long, you need variation.

Alcohol has no value in my life. I don't do things that I consider stupid/worthless/ pointless. And that is definitely one of those thigns. I do agree that things can get lame, but blowing 300$ when it could go for so many better things is just stupid. I don't work for a week to end up blowing every dime of it on alcohol and shit that I won't remember. I do enjoy plenty of good things, most of the time they have nothing to do with money.

I can see we are very different people :D

just cause someones makes/has more money than you has nothing to do with things being worthless. and if you consider alcohol worthless pointless and stupid- im guessing u either cant drink or never had. also yes even the 10$ you might spend on mj could go for something better, and a tramp would probably call you stupid also for that, but your ammounts of money and have you spend them are up to you, no one is in the place to count other peoples money, and if they make less it theyre fault

I'm pretty confident that dig is fully aware in which forum he is posting. 100 bucks a head to drink at the bar for the night isn't bad. On a friday or saturday night in any big city that's a pretty typical bar tab especially if you include tip. a couple of ounces won't last forever or even practically forever and I believe I'm pretty good at conserving weed. Just because you have no value in alcohol does not mean other folks do not. Why spend that kind of money on marijuana when you could feed starving kids in Africa? get off your high horse

you say spending 300$ in a night on booze is "worthless/pointless/stupid" yet you say go spend 300$ on buying weed?...am i understanding this right?

i'll go buy 300$ worth of weed and toss it down a sewer drain, it's fuckin nothing, the feeling u get in drinkin booze that costs the normal population 15$ a shot will get you so much "higher" then pot ever could, i'm wasting my fingers typing it to you, because clearly you are too young/naive to understand what this post it about, it's not bragging rights, i'm 'recomending' advice that may help people on this forum later in life/currently

with that said, i'm not gonna get into any debates within this thread, because i feel alot of good discussion and advice has already been given/discussed, and i've only done 1 session :)

wonka here also knows where it's at because he's worked in an industry where tips are king

if I could give one peice of advice [i guess i'll be giving it to you scrubs as well LOL] to kids or even older people looking for a job/looking for a job out of high school :

    GET INTO THE BAR/MOVIE INDUSTRY!

bar industry, put in your dues and in under 3 years u could be making 350+ a night [and thats jut in tips] work in the movie industry and just by being a "roadie" you could be making 18+ an hour, sitting on your ass eating catered food.

This is funny because there are many interpretations of what I said that are absolutely bullshit. I wasn't insulting anyone, I don't care if anyone drinks, I find no value in it (have drank before, plenty of times to know what it is) and that's that. 100$ in one night is a shitload of money when it can go so much further. All the argument is based upon is the opinion of what is a lot and what isn't. I'm done with that. I'm not on a fucking high horse, I think I'm no better than anyone. I just gave a simple opinion.

    Thanks for the flames though.

^ so you already knew that you could get premium vodkas, at a less premium price, and avoid the "hype" tax, while getting an extremely good vodka?

i guess you already knew all about choosing red wines, and which goes good with steak, while others are only good for snacking or tasting?

AND i guess, since you have so much experiance in the bar and service industry, you already knew how bartenders work, and how to get the most out of your money when in a night club?

if you did, i doubt you'd be making smart ass comments like that.

    Anyways..continuing on..

    SEGMENT 2: Choosing a Rum:

now..i'm not a big rum drinker, but I know people who swear buy it, rum is a mixer drink imo, it's not to be drunk straight, nor with light mixtures such as Rum/Water etc. it is usually mixed with a heavier mix, ie. pop, juice etc.

with rums, you have 2 types [generally speaking] Spiced, and non spiced rum, in your non-spiced cattegory, you have the typical: bacardi [and all it's variations, Limon, cran, mandarin *151* etc.] you then have Lamb's, Malibu, Coruba White, and Havana [which makes spiced, and non]

then onto spiced, typically i've found that the majority of Caribean rums are indeed spiced rums, your typical ones found locally include Appletons, Bundaberg, Captain morgan, etc.

the only advice i can give on higher end rums [which are not even too expensive] would be the following:

Inner Circle - Red Lable, at 48$ a bottle, it's a premium dark rum, at a decent price

then from there on in, Price is determined by Age [keep in mind, if a premium rum has been many times over distilled and processed, aging only adds paticular flavours, not smoothness.

2 of the ones i knew were in the "forbes top 10 aged rums" section, my fav's include:

[this company, but not this bottle]

    and:

both are MUCH different tastes, but imo the best rum i've had, although i'm not a rum conisuer i hope i added some insight, lemme eat dinner then i'll post my next segment.

SEGMENT 3 - MANAGING MONEY ** - could be important to some of you stoners to read up

now, before i start, let me say that i've never known what it's like to be in a "lower class" status, let alone Poor. I come from a mid-upper class family, living in an upper class neighborhood, My early life was generally pretty easy lookin back at it now

of course, i went though phases where other friends/aquaintances had material possesions, or other thins which i envied, but again, looking back it was stupid, in the end unless your filthy stinkin rich, - you are what you make of yourself -

and with that statement, let me sum up my financial life to this point:

During highschool, in times where i needed money to get impaired, so lets say, grade 10 on, i was NEVER unemployed, during the summers before that i worked as a construction labourer, making 10$ an hour doin bullshit work, and although it was bullshit, making 10$ an hour when your 15 = nice money to play with, during the grade 9/10 summer i worked there, saved 1500-1800 each summer, and somehow that lasted me through a school year

in grade 11 summer, i got a job working at Red Robin [a resturant chain for those that dont know] making 9.50 an hour, workin 3 days a week during school, i managed to get by, saving a VERY LITTLE, but still a bit, also workin there i got CASH TIPS every monday after the friday paycheck, which was very nice for weed/booze, all the time, putting a Small amount away into savings [which would eventually buy my first car with]

after that, my income exploded using my schooling, and connections, to do freelance work for my own company, as well as become a bartender at a downtown Vancouver bar, ever since about 3 years ago, i've been laughing and i havent looked back.

now here's the key stoners, it can be all summed up in one word, and that word is:

    "Management"

MANAGE your money, no matter if that money is a weekly allowance, or a steady income from a job, Management is key to getting anywhere financially

say you get a weekly allowance of 20$, or maybe 5$ per day for lunch, and that makes up your entire income, SAVE 10$ of it a week, going to school for 6 hours a day, it's not hard to go 1-2 days without eating, or bring a lunch from home, and pocket the money

the key to this is SAVING the money, once you begin to save, you can take from the savings, but only a percentage that wont damage the total, say over 10 weeks you manage to save 140$, taking 80$ out of it [Unless it's used towards an investment] is DAMAGE to your savings, taking 20$ out of it, and tossing down another 10$ you got from your rents that day to buy an Eigth instead of buying a gram is an INVESTMENT

buying larger amounts, you are getting a better ratio of Product/Price, there for you saved money, and in turn, you are able to SAVE MORE, because you got a better deal on the weed, and wont have to buy more for an extended period of time

now, if you have a STEADY income, ie. a Job, a hefty allowance, Social insurance, etc. then you have more options

the stupidest thing somone who gets paied on a consistant basis is live pay cheque to pay cheque, if you are in that situation, you are not managing your money, or u should be looking for a better job OR you should change your lifestyle

getting large cheques every week, imo a portion should ALWAYS be saved, if you have a bank account, go in and tell them you want to set up a high interest savings account

you may, even want to setup a "LOCKED" account, usually these have a minimum deposit of 1000$, but if u have 1000$ and u dont have any expenses PUT YOUR FREAKIN MONEY IN IT!!

locked accounts, you can only deposit money into, and never withdraw until a certain amount of time is up, this way you know you wont be spending money on stupid shit, ie. munchies, more weed, clothes etc

This may sound like all stupid bullshit to you, but trust me, with more money you will be happier!

also...the social aspect comes in to play, in Highschool, be who you are, back when i was there, i always wanted to be up to date with style, ie. Fasion, the latest tech shit, Ipod etc. Which is WASTEFULL, if you cant afford it [which i couldnt]

being a social butterfly like that is rediculous, and as everyone has always told you high school kids, once your done with highschool, all your friends will be gone, people move on, and no one will give a rats ass about you..and guess what? THEY'RE RIGHT!

so why not get a head start on life and make somthing of yourself?

one of the best money managers i saw in my highschool career [well he went from best to worst] was a stupid kid named boone who had saved EVERY SINGLE FUCKING PENNY, since like his 12th birthday, working, presents, etc. he saved it all, the kid ended up having like 50g's in his bank account in grade 11 from saving all that AND working 2 shitty jobs

    and guess what he did?

he bought a 99 honda prelude, dumped 30 grand into it, to come out with a riced out, hideous looking ride, with no engine mods, and a paint job that should have cost him 2000$ ended up costing 7000$

well gee kids..was that a smart move? he paied 50,000$ in highschool to look "cool" when in fact, if he had taken that money, or bought a condo etc. he would have looked "Cool" to the real world, now he's still sweaping floors at mcdonalds, but at least he's got a cool prelude right?...

i'm sure you've always heard the phrase "money is the root of all evils" well, it can be, but it also can be very helpfull.

with all this said, i'm not saying you have to be rich to be happy, i'm not saying you need to go out and buy 100$ dinners with a 300$ bottle of wine, i'm also not saying that you need to do ANY OF THIS

all i'm saying is, to be 100% truthfully honest, when you put yourself in a situation where you feel comfortable financially, your whole life improves, i know the feeling of not having enough to buy things you want, i know the feeling of needing change etc to pay for things

it may not be crucial to you, but having extra money, even just sitting in your bank is VERY assuring, not having to worry about bills, or running out in times of need, takes a load off your mind you didnt even know was there.

that concludes todays section, if anyone wants to hear more financial advice regarding leasing/financing cars, and the do's and donts, i will post that up as well.

Probably the wisest comment ive heard in a while on these forums. I laugh my ass off when kids at school who think thier cool by going around saying "you my fuckin boy 4 life mark" or something like that. These kids dont have any relationships w/ there parents/siblings, and its really sad because they have no idea that when they need help with something, there "boys" will be out fucking there girlfriends or working a fulltime job not giving a fuck about you. Your family/blood will ALWAYS be connected with you, so why waste time with your fake, temporary friends in highschool? Now im not saying for you to be a loner your highschool years, but you have to think ahead, dont get caught up in the moment.

BTW, I cant wait for your next tips dj, im very interested.
