As kids, we had a lot of these napkin shaped diapers. And we used them for everything, but noone was being diapered with them :-/. But later on, my mother dyed some of them, and we used them as scarfs for sore throats.... I learned the technique in a babysitters course, how to fold them, but I have never encountered a baby in person that is being diapered with fabric at all. Pretty bad. I decided a while ago, that if I can afford the starting money, I will definately use cloth diapers, if I have children.
hehe! I had boy folds and girl folds, newborn folds, and toddler folds! I loved how they looked drying on a clothesline in the sun and breeze. I even liked folding them! You can tie them around a baby's neck at mealtime for a bib, throw it over your shoulder to burp them, if you're the sort who needs to cover your baby while nursing in public, they much lighter and cooler than a blanket, and when your baby is out of them, they make great menstrual pads! And awesome cleaning rags! I used them in my bra when nursing instead of breastpads, super absorbant! And, best of all, they're like $6 a dozen! You can have zillions! And they're one size fits all, so no need to buy different sizes.
I use snappis instead of pins.... Pins are way to complicated! Check it out! http://www.earthbaby.com/snappis.html
I am fast approaching the tail end of my pregnancy, and already have everything i need in the way of diapers for the baby. I have been babysitting for the next door neighbours for the past 2-1/2 years now, and the mother has always used the old fashioned type of cloth diapers with diaper pins and rubber pants, so in our house it's going to be the same as well. My mother and i went to "Field's" department store a couple of months ago and bought 4 packages of "Snugabye" brand flat fold baby flannelette diapers which came in under $85.00. I then ordered a couple packages of the "plastic" safety capped "Dritz" brand diaper pins which came to under $6.00 and lastly, a quick trip to "Wal-Mart" department store for some good old-fashioned pull-on plastic/rubber pants. I figure the entire cloth diapering layette i chose should have already payed for itself once over within the very first 6 weeks. Talk about economical! Besides, both me and my mother are strong cloth diapering advocates, and very adament and steadfast when it comes to reusability! So, anything but cloth diapers just wouldn't be acceptable by any standards, especially considering the fact that grandma will be occasionally babysitting!
I was cloth- diapered...my mom used cloth diapers on all 4 of us. And since I'm the oldest, I learned how to change cloth diapers at an early age! I'm definitely going to use cloth diapers whenever I have kids...could be awhile though!
ive used cloth on all of mine. well the last 6 months except i had to come live with my sister in las vegas and started using disposables on the drive. once here i got looks from my sister and her husband when i mentioned laundering diapers. plus we left in a hurry and all the cloths are back in pennsylvania. so i would have had to buy or sew up some new ones. any way were flying back to philly in a week and i cant wait to get back at my way of doing things. i've also sewed alot of my own bacause of expense and quality has anyone else?
I just won some snappis on ebay and I can't wait to try them. I hate pins.....I've never poked the baby, but I always end up poking myself! Thanks for the link YellowBelly!
