I've been there for a week on holiday with my family and the place was absolutley groovy. I saw loads of hippies or people who dressed groovy. The weather was lovely, there was loads of hippie/new age shops and it was a very chilled out place!

Plan to move somewhere south like Devon or Cornwall, because they are lovely place, with some beautiful scenery. No more using the word groovy as an adjective please. The campaign starts here!

There are some beautifully picturesque places in the south west indeed!

I always remember going on family holidays to Devon and Cornwall when I was a wee laddy. :sunglasse

Having lived in Devon all of my life, I am about to leave it to live in japan for a few months. Sure, Devon's a lovely place... most of the time. Although, like every other place... you do get lots of cunts, townies and fuckheads pissing in the street or starting fights. If you want to visit devon, then my only advice is to avoid Exeter and PLYMOUTH at all costs. If you need to shop, go to Totnes, it has a lot more originality. Exeter has just been turned into a clone city of every other high street in the country, it has none of it's own independent stores or anything, they're all hidden away in the back alleys, which I think is just darn right shiteybollocks!
Cornwall's lovely too, especially Daymer Bay :)

If it all went tits up in Portugal for me, and no other country would have me, so I had to move back to the UK, I would go to live somewhere in Devon or Cornwall. Somewhere really quiet by the sea. Haven't been there for a while though.

    I'm from Somerset
I had a job years ago that involved travelling to
all the major towns in Somerset, Devon & Cornwall
    including every coastal resort.

My synopsis, avoid Plymouth like the plague.!
Newquay is a cool place to experience and see, in peak summer.!
Woolacombe and Bude are good for beach & surf only.
St Ives is a typical old style fishing town & stupidly busy in peak.
Torquay is sort of OK, itleast it has good shopping centres.
Exmoor is great as well as Dartmoor & Woodbury Common, etc.
Imo, Exeter is the best for shopping though as it's currently under
going a multi-million pound face-lift. The Met office has it's HQ
    there now, btw.
