Who gained financially from illegalising it, in this case? I've never really known what prompted the change.

For psilocybin mushrooms, they usually "bruise" blue when picked but you can further test their legitimacy by taking a spore print.

It isnt really any different or more dangerous than any other sort of edible mushroom identification. If you know what you're doing and how to properly identify them, it's perfectly safe
