Novel de-noising method generates sharper photorealistic images faster Nvidia's new ray tracing system works by taking a small sample of rays and "denoising" a grainy image. Their denoiser is proprietary, but such programs have been developed in the open source community for decades, and Nvidia's version is not particularly great. This new one should have applications to ray tracing as well, while Crytek has already demonstrated ray traced reflections running on a Vega 56, which is considerably less powerful than what Nvidia uses. As strange as it might sound, the more powerful graphics cards become, the easier it to use improvements in mathematics to make them dramatically more powerful without changing the hardware. At any rate, this development has come along at the right time, and could be incorporated in current existing graphics cards at any time.
