Yeah, I try to remember that I'm discussing things with people who don't even know better than to admit to getting their education from the TV and the Wall Street Journal.
"…state-controlled Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), filed a story on Ahmadinejad's speech to the "World Without Zionism" conference in Asia, entitled: Ahmadinejad: Israel must be wiped off the map.…" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahmoud_Ahmadinejad_and_Israel Hey have a ball with this one you know nothings. I don't know why you people can't search the internet your own selves. Why do I have to seek public information for you all. What Dorks! You owe me 50 dollars US. This never happened and neither did the holocaust happen. You are right! I am wrong! I give up. Believe what ever the Hell you want to. I don't care.
New Zealand I would say is safe.. its the most neutral country and will probably avoid all fallout... this is the place you want to go if you want to survive the end of the world ;p
THE ACTUAL QUOTE: So what did Ahmadinejad actually say? To quote his exact words in farsi: "Imam ghoft een rezhim-e ishghalgar-e qods bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad." That passage will mean nothing to most people, but one word might ring a bell: rezhim-e. It is the word "Regime", pronounced just like the English word with an extra "eh" sound at the end. Ahmadinejad did not refer to Israel the country or Israel the land mass, but the Israeli regime. This is a vastly significant distinction, as one cannot wipe a regime off the map. Ahmadinejad does not even refer to Israel by name, he instead uses the specific phrase "rezhim-e ishghalgar-e qods" (regime occupying Jerusalem). So this raises the question.. what exactly did he want "wiped from the map"? The answer is: nothing. That's because the word "map" was never used. The Persian word for map, "nagsheh", is not contained anywhere in his original farsi quote, or, for that matter, anywhere in his entire speech. Nor was the western phrase "wipe out" ever said. Yet we are led to believe that Iran's President threatened to "wipe Israel off the map", despite never having uttered the words "map", "wipe out" or even "Israel". http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=4527 This is an excellent opportunity to educate yourself. I predict you will not.
You go girl???? If you're hoping to start a flame war with me to change the subject, well that's really weak, too. And it doesn't work.
storch, I watched your whole VID. What a waist of my life. I've seen it before. The Dick is simply lying and obviously denieging something that he had already stated publicly on a previous occasion. Why else could you imagine that the reporter is asking him about what he previously said. Duh.
There is no perfect country. Why ruin this thread with such trivial questions? I rather enjoyed most of it. All insight is good when you truly want to share your opinions. It gets kinda lame when it turns into a competition althought the demand to back up posts is very righteous. To ask 50 dollars for it is not. Too bad this thread is getting less and less constructive.
We're not talking about what some Professor said as an excuse two weeks after the fact. We're talking about what the president of Iran said, IN THE FIRST PLACE. IT WAS LIVE ON TV. I SAW IT LIVE ON TV. THE WORDS CAME OUT OF HIS MOUTH. OTHER PEOPLE SAW IT AND HEARD IT, NOT JUST ME. BUT, LIKE 50 MILLION PEOPLE. HIS PERSONAL PRESIDENT'S OFFICE TRANSLATION PERSON TRANSLATED EXACTLY WHAT HE SPOKE. Okay? Peace Out.
LOL. You've seen it before? Then why on earth did you watch the whole thing again? If only you had known you had watched the whole thing before, you could have avoided wasting your time. But you must have realized only after the last seconds of the video elapsed. You know, for someone who does research for a living, your spelling and grammar skills leave much to be desired. Do you really do internet research for money?
In middle eastern countries animals are abused just like the women are. Try being a woman, a homosexual or a non Muslim over there.
I'm suppose to post things in order to prove something to people. "Wiped off the map" controversy On October 26, 2005, IRIB News, an English-language subsidiary of the state-controlled Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), filed a story on Ahmadinejad's speech to the "World Without Zionism" conference in Asia, entitled: Ahmadinejad: Israel must be wiped off the map. Exactly what part of: "STATE-CONTROLLED ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN BROADCASTING (IRIB)" don't you understand? Please tell me so that I can put you directly in touch with the personnel at this news agency. Okay? If Ahmadinejad was ever miss-translated by his own State translators, then don't you think that they would have been beheaded? On the spot? They throw homosexuals from the highest building. The minarets of mosques. How cool.
Try being a homo in the wrong area of your country. Or a muslim. Why judge a whole country and everyone in it like this when you know you're generalizing and stereotyping a whole nation. Iranians are nothing less as american people. They seem barbaric from our spoiled point of view. How can you expect all these countries to be at the same level of social development as in the 'first world'. We needed some centuries as well. No need to overthrow anything because they're not on the same page as us.
BTW. Yes. I'm an editor and do researcher for money. SP? We hire proof readers. That's not my concern. How good are you and do you need work?
I need work! Send Work! To be fair, Iran was one of the most cosmopolitan countries in the world before the 1979 revolution. And to be fair the conditions that lead to that were entirely instituted by Britain and the US when we sponsored a coup against their democratic constitutional monarchy and replaced it with the autocratic Shaw. Here in fact is a slideshow of swinging Tehran pre-1979 http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2012/02/15/once_upon_a_time_in_tehran In fact the same for Afghanistan. No, Afghanistan has not always been an over religious 3rd world hell hole. Before the Soviet invasion and US counter efforts, welp, here's Kabul in the 1960's http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2010/05/27/once_upon_a_time_in_afghanistan Girls in heels and skirts, record shops, madmen furniture, window boutiques, medical research centers, textile factories, move theaters, men and women interacting freely. But see, all of this is irrelevant compared to the fact Iran is very much trying to make a nuclear weapon. It doesn't matter if it was Iran or Malaysia, the world does not want another nuclear armed states, especially if said state is in one of the most volatile regions in the world and is destined to create an arms race if it happens.
SK, Oh, I think you know just how good I am. So, an interpeter says one thing, which is demonstrably incorrect, and can be proven so through a break down of the statement, and you are going to hang onto the wrong translation. Interesting! There is no doubt about the words he used, and the words are translated as has been shown you. Go ahead and listen to what he says, and then google the actual meaning of the words. This has been posted to you a couple of times. And you were incorrect as to where the original quote came from, but why should I correct you? And no, I'm not looking for work. Besides, my ethics prevent me from fixing the work of those who don't research things.
