I tend to agree, but no society is ever going to allow sentencing someone to a slow and painful death over a period of weeks or months. However, I would put them in solitary confinement and feed them on bread and water for the rest of their lives. A few rats who would be free to come and go between the bars as they pleased would be optional and certainly get the message home. PS, I don't think that I would make a good prison warden in most peoples opinion, particularly when I let the bread go mouldy.
As I said (above) some days ago, the veneer of a civilised society has worn down so as to be non existent anymore.
I remember my late father telling me about the guy who murdered a police officer. When they caught up with him, (their was no doubt about his guilt), every time they took him to the cells, he tripped and fell down the iron staircase. I believe that he was the last person to be hanged in the UK and by the time that he got to the gallows, he had suffered a lot of painful injuries. No one seemed to notice, I wonder why.?
I have a BETTER solution, and it's NOT as quick as lethal injection or hanging, or firing squad. Penal colonies on isolated islands. For murderers and rapists, child molesters, etc., maybe have a few countries buy up a few islands in the middle of nowhere. For all those "tough guys" ........... just drop them off. No prison, no shelters, no anything. And as the maggots are dropped off ........ a verbal declaration such as, "OK tough guy. Let's see how tough you really are. Try to survive here ......... where you're surrounded by shark-infested waters and hundreds of miles of ocean. Exposed to the elements. No communication systems of any kind. See ya." No costs involved, no court cases, no appeals that drag on for 20, 30 years. NO expenses for multi-million dollar prison buildings, guards, etc. - just let the "tough guys" fend for themselves. Even if they encounter other prisoners there, let them fight to the death among themselves for survival. It's NO WORSE than what they did to innocent people back in their home countries. Starvation or lack of water should be a good punishment for the truly heinous offenders in our societies .............. slow, painful, torturous.

I must also have been wrong about the discussion with my father, since it happened after his death in 1957. Thinking back, the discussion was between his brother and my mother. In the account above, Podola accused the police of brutality following his arrest, but they claimed that he was accidentally injured when they broke his door down. In the version that I heard, he was used as a police punchbag throughout his stay in Wandsworth prison prior to his execution and that was after his trial. I am certain that the part about him constantly falling down the stairs at the police station cells prior to his trial was also true. 1959 was not a good time to be a police murderer and a Nazzi supporter in the UK.
I wonder how the victims of violent crime, rape, murder victims' surviving family members, etc. would feel about having to PAY for repeat offenders' upkeep, health care, etc. for years with their tax money ....... TODAY. Most psychological experts today agree that repeat violent offenders CANNOT be rehabilitated. ( just watched a documentary on this subject ). So why waste EXPENSIVE prison space on the repeat violent criminals??? Keep prisons for those non-violent, non-repeat offenders that at least have a shot at turning their lives around. If we took a nationwide poll TODAY - and asked citizens if the likes of Ted Bundy, BTK, the Night Stalker, Dahmer, Gacy, and others like them - should be kept for years, decades maybe, at taxpayer expense, while numerous appeals work their way through the courts - in climate-controlled prison cells ..... 3 hots & a cot .... medical care, etc. OR ........ if they'd like them to be dropped off on an isolated island with nothing instead. I wonder how that poll would turn out. The gas for the boat ride to the island is much cheaper than 2 week's care in prison ......... let alone 10, 20 years' worth. As for the post about the guy who killed a police officer in the UK ....... Today, here in the U.S. - we have SOME cops who murder un-armed people by shooting them in the back while walking away from said cops, (instead of surrounding him with other cops, tackling him, etc.), kneeling on the neck of a guy, killing him, - breaking down the door of THE WRONG APARTMENT and shooting an emergency medical worker lady in her bed, - shooting & killing a guy sitting in his car asleep / passed out (not driving after drinking) when they tried to drag him out of his car. (how would anyone react to sudden physical confrontation after being asleep or passed out??) These folks were all black, BTW. And that's only a FEW. ( I'm white ). Believe me - there are numerous cops here who should be behind bars. They should never have been cops in the first place. TOO MANY racist, white supremacy cops these days. Some were even at the Jan. 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol !!!!! How's that for "law-abiding" ???
I remember seeing a picture of that useless motherfucker Richard Speck, fat and happy , snorting what appeared to be cocaine in his jail cell with some other convicts. He said "if they knew how much fun I was having in here--they'd turn me loose." Yeah that worked out as a real punishment didn't it? Should have fried that bitch. And for some reason, I still remember the name of the nurse that hid under the bed and survived; Corazon Amarou. There have been in the news lately, many stories about people that have killed little kids, some as young as infants---I say kill ém.
There have been recent news reports from around the country where PARENTS have murdered their own kids in fits of rage, or being drug-addled & "out in the cosmos", or as a way to get back at a divorcee / life partner, or just from inconvenience. I remember one report of a baby ( 6 months to 1 year old ) that had signs of multiple previous beatings before being killed by the parent. Tough guys & girls - beating on babies and kids.

Now here's a guy in the news today that raped and killed A TWO YEAR OLD BABY!!! It was on the yahoo news earlier--can't find it now. He's gotten a life sentence!!!!! Anyone want to defend this insane scum by saying he should be forgiven and that a life sentence is the correct way to go?? IMO, he deserves being dead as quickly as possible.
That's because he targeted the government. Had it been civilians he went after they wouldn't have done it so quickly.
There were little children in that building that got killed. He's a dead motherfucker and that's as fitting as could be.
