    I agree with you completely.

A few years ago I read this story about a young black boy (the youngest person ever to be on death row) and he was close to his date for execution and they found out he was innocent. Luckily in that case, they found out in time not murder him.

With the death penalty, poor people (as usual) are the ones that get screwed.

Incidentally, it costs more to use the death penalty than to give people life in prison. The death penalty is very expensive.

The law isn't meant to justify an old west sense of vengence.

I doubt killing someone is as rewarding as it seems to you.

I'm glad that my life isn't dictated by a need for revenge.

where do you see revenge? this is just a poll, but of course everyone needs to twist it to something its not because that cannot handle the formailty of talking about it in general.

  7. it's because we have a broken justice system as a whole, not just this one penalty

marth stewart got 10 months penalty, 5 in a fucking tennis court\swimming pool resort for something that a mere mortal would get 10-15 years in state prison for

the justice system isn't just, but you either reform the whole thing, life sentences, speeding tickets and all, or whatever you do is pointless

do you really think all this money would be spent to get people off with life sentences?

all the money poured into these DNA tests to free these death row inmates is only available because they are death row....

Maybe you would find murdering people rewarding. I don't know you, but that doesn't make you tough.

What was it like two years ago that the supreme court finally decided you couldn't execute retarded people?

Why did this take till the year 2003?

  10. the death penalty is at base revenge, there are fringe benefits, but they only exist because the prison system is broken, it is a vengeance killing

i do not in anyway base my thoughts on the bible i am not religious nor do i support our government or system but jesus its not like we can do anything about it, whats is the major wrongness in having a discussion abou one thing and twisting it to fit your needs so you may insult it because you can't come up with a worthy thought about the subject?

Holy crap! I did not realize that up until 2003 you could execute them. That is just wrong.

And just because things are corrupt all over does not mean that I should just give up and accept it and not bother to believe that anything is wrong or unjustified. I've read books and studied about the death penalty and as far as I can tell it does not benefit society in any way and so I am not going to be a proponent of it.

  14. you don't even have a fucking clue what the other two are do you?

to nelo, reguarding the vedas and hammurabi

What are you talking about? Am I not discussing? Uh? I see people's desire for the death penatly as a desire for revenge because they want to see someone killed. I've seen many interviews with people who witnessed an execution because they wanted revenge and after it was over they felt even worse than before and go no satisfaction out of someone else's death. But people usually think that they will get that satisfaction because they are obsessed with revenge.

I like how one of the people arguing aginst the death penalty has Clint Eastwood in her sig. :p

But yeah, I don't see any benifit other then to let the familes of the victim feel avenged, and that isn't the purpose of law.

It's more expensive, and it dispropotionatly effects the poor and miniorities, and in my opinion, the worst part about it is, we've killed innocent (and guilty but mentally incompepetent) people.

Nelo is writing in bold so he must know what he is talking about.

Hah, I was also just thinking about how ironic that is as well, lodui. Oh well, no one ever said I had to be consistent (and Clint Eastwood is hot, so he can do whatever he wants) :p

I say throw them in prison so they could get raped... you know the guards probably throw rapists in cells with people named Bubba on purpose.
