I wish women would sleep with me more easily without them worrying that I'm going to think of them as a slut afterwards

    I'm not a prude

but telling someone you disagree with their values is hardly offensive, particularly when those to whom you are addressing are standing their with their dick out. I think it all evens out quite neatly.

And let's be frank, had these people not opposed bohemian sexual values and morals, no one would be exhibiting them. It's all rebellion, at the end of the day.

I, personally, am safely netted between both extremes.

Your post reminded me that I didn't know as much about her as I should. The Jefferson Airplane came and went before I was old enough to care or understand who they were. So I spent some time with Google this week and watched some of her interviews. I love her attitude! I have to say I probably have more in common with her than with Janis. Yes, if I was a wealthy rock star like Grace, I would surely tell all the prudes in the world to go fuck themselves. But I would smile while I was doing it.

Even though Grace is now 70 years old, traces of her natural beauty remain. She's amazing. :cheers2:

Wow, this just reminded me of a beautiful moment I had fucking Brenda when we first got to Miami. The radio was on some oldies rock station and they played Jefferson Airplane. I wrote about it in a notebook; a train of thot called "Flashback."

This is the first time transcribing it from the handwritten note.

    19 Jan 83

Making love on a mattress on the floor in an old wooden, termite eaten house, hearing Jefferson Airplane "Doncha want somebody to love;" thots go back to early '70s just a dozen years past - New Orleans, San Francisco - exploring communal lifestyles, hallucinogenic drugs, sexual freedom, living in old wooden houses with mattresses on the floor, a younger man in his mid 20s caught in a time of youthful rebellion and exploration, smoking dope and making love to casual acquaintances he calls "brother" and "sister" and listening to Jefferson Airplane.

I just ran across this old classic photo of Grace:

Don't you love it? I sure do! :) I wish I had been old enough to see the JA perform live. And Hendrix, and Janis. They still inspire me.

Completely unrelated to the Jefferson Airplane, the growing sex scandal involving Matt Lauer (NBC News - Today Show) reminds me of a common reason that some people talk a tough line against sexual freedom - to divert attention away from their own secret double lives. He has been so conservative and judgmental on moral issues that I should have suspected he was up to something. I've known for a long time how that game works.

I never saw Jefferson Airplane perform but saw one of their later incarnations, Jefferson Starship. They played at the Elliott Hall of Music at Purdue University in 1981. For those not familiar with Purdue, it's about as right-wing conservative as it gets. When I was there Steve Beering became President of the University and said that parents in Indiana had entrusted the university with their children, so it was the role of the university to provide parental guidance during the student's four years on campus. So much for spreading your wings and experiencing life on your own! Then this group of wild hippies show up to perform rock in what is best described as an opera house! It was great! It wasn't the entire Airplane lineup, but included Marty Balin, Paul Kantner, and yes, Grace Slick. By then she was about 40, but her voice was as strong as ever. That evening's definitely on my list of top concerts I've attended.

There's a lot of debate over what constitutes "essential" albums in anyone's collection. I vote for "Surrealistic Pillow" by the original Jefferson Airplane.

Going back to the original theme of this thread, I guess Stevie (Wonder) Beering qualifies as one of the "Prudes" at whom this thread is directed. I was at Purdue for six years of grad school and was constantly amazed by the sheltered community of West Lafayette, IN. Many of the locals couldn't fathom life outside the confines of Tippecanoe County. Fortunately I found the right subculture. :ssmokeit:

Hmmm, funny how "Prude" and "Purdue" look so much alike.

One of the great things about college is that you can almost always find a like-minded group to hang out with, especially at a larger school. Life after college is much different. You have far less control over your peer group. If you make enemies of your conservative coworkers and neighbors, you may pay a heavy price for it eventually.

I was really judgmental when I first signed up on these forums.

Recently with life experience I just feel it's uneccesary to judge people on these kind of things.

It's not a crime, several of my friends get judged on this, including guys who are shunned by some girls.

In the grand scheme of things, we as humans are very insignificant, so why make sex such a big deal? Live your life and have fun.

I saw the Jefferson Starship live at the Boston Music Hall on 10/13/74 when Grace Slick was still in full glory. The songs from Red Octopus and Dragon Fly were very exciting.

I think you have it spot on. Some people are not worth making enemies of.

What, no explanation or anything, just deleted?

I mean it has been established in many forums here that female breasts are as acceptable as male breasts. (We kinda got that ball rolling back in the HIPPY DAYS).

Some New York women even made a legal point of that and had the discriminatory law overturned that said women couldn't go topfree like men.

Glad to see it back. I mean it is friggin' Janis Joplin's breasts.

I love that Rolling Stone pic. Shows a side of Janis not usually seen by most admirers and to me it is indicative of the era.

Is it just my imagination, or are public displays of affection less tolerated than they used to be? What's the typical reaction like where you live? When I was in high school, you couldn't walk down a hall without seeing a couple holding hands, hugging, or kissing in front of somebody's locker. Nobody thought anything of it.

On my day off yesterday, I visited a winery out of town, and kissed my guy while we were relaxing with a glass of wine on the second level of the patio. Nobody else was up there. Then I heard somebody down below say with great disgust, "Get a room!" I looked down, but could find no one looking in our direction, and nobody else was making out with anybody. There were also no children in sight (you have to be 21 to be there).

I wanted to give somebody the finger, but there was no way to find out who had spoken. Why the hell did they feel the need to ruin my moment? Why did they give a damn what I was doing?

Strangely enough, the last time anybody said anything like that to me was at a winery in another state. Maybe the wine gives prudes the self-confidence to criticize others more easily. At that other place, we had only exchanged tight hugs, and the old woman who spoke to us was not afraid of having an ugly confrontation with me in front of everybody.

Even if there had been children around in either case...

Psychologists have proven that kids who grow up seeing adults expressing moderate affection for each other (short of having sex) are more likely to report having positive romantic and sexual relationships as adults. It's common sense, really. You tend to emulate your role models. If you grow up seeing adults greatly enjoy each other's company, that's what you expect your adult life to be like, and you try hard to make it happen.

If you are the kind of person who would speak out in a situation like that to embarrass another person for no good reason, I want to say to you, MIND YOUR OWN FUCKING BUSINESS. If you have nobody to kiss, it isn't my problem. YOU get a room, and go fuck yourself.

    /rant of the day

We have a room, thank you, and we made great use of it when we got home. But I'm not going to hide in it and act as if there is something wrong with everything we do in there. :)

Karen - do you think someone was really offended by you and your bf kissing? Or, perhaps someone had a bit too much wine, saw your pda, and emboldened by the alcohol, decided to be a smartass?
